First Outdoor Grow

What’s up guys—

I’ve got 5 holes dug, about 3x3x2.5 and plan to get 5 or so cloth pots. Not sure on size.

They are vegging away currently, looking good.

So what mix am i mixing my native soil?

I’ve decided to go with

Native soil
Bone meal
Blood meal
Worm castings
compost
Green sand
Rock Phosphate

But like how much am i going to mix with my native soil for each hole and pot?

Like 40% native soil/20% compost /15% worm , etc?

Just not sure how much to mix, don’t wanna overdue it or underdue it to much.

Any ideas ?

You want a lot of compost and castings in their so like 30/40/30 just mix some and see what it looks like. make sure it not to heavy you want good airy soil. And 1 cup of your nutes per cu ft of soil idk anything about green sand but i think i saw like 2 cups per hole would be good. your holes are 40-50 gallon so say 6 cu ft per hole.

Awesome.

So let me try and do some math here for how much work castings and compost i should get .

-3 Cubic feet of compost per hole
-3ish cubic feet of worm castings
-4cubic feet of native soil.

Then a mix of my Blood, Bone meal, rock phosphate and green sand for each hole, and mix everything all up nice.


I was going to get a compost manure blend, some organic stuff from Vermont compost company, they suggest it to mix with native soil so sounds good.

Does 1 cubic yards sounds like way to much compost ?
That is equal to about 27 cubic feet?

I’ll see if getting a cubic yard would be better than 27 bags of compost.
Worm castings are a bit pricy, but all good

Forgot I’ll want to fill like 5 smart pots too.

Soil stuff gets pricy haha

For 5-45 gallon smart pots-225 gallon = 31cu ft = 1.1 cu yd 1 pot= 6 cuft so if your pots and your holes are that size and with that you have 10 plants if im understanding, So you need about 2 yard of soil so a yard of compost is good

It's all pretty much a crap shoot with mold...even the mold resistant strains will mold. Frisian Dew molded on me last year but I might have had them a little too close together. Will try again this year at ten feet apart, they did grow around ten feet tall though and bushy as hell. I live in up "NORTHERN"Maine

Yeah in northern Vt, only thing i’m really concerned about for outdoor is mold/ late season stuff.

They won’t be in a greenhouse, what’s the best way to prevent mold and whatnot ?

What native soil have u got? Does it drain well or is it claggy and holds water for ages?

Maybe I'm wrong here, but I wouldn’t use any kind of pot; u run the risk of root rot big time, coz u don’t know how wet the soil is at the bottom of ur dug in pot; I made that mistake last year..

That’s just my opinion though.

Joking aside, u growing Autos?

When does the weather turn wet in ur part of the universe?

No i’m not growing autos

I’m saying just like preventive stuff.

But i mean Vt is notirious for moldy wet sept/october and besides a greenhouse what other stuff should be done.

5 will in ground 7 in 15 gallon pots

Actinovate, and Natria Disease Control work great. I mix them together.
They are organic fungicides. I get very little mold on my buds, and I'm in Nova Scotia.

And you mix this with water and spray it right on the plants during veg?

yes, and during flower

You can probably get a way with just the Natria disease control(used to be called Serenade). You can use that during the whole grow, but smells like ass.
If you get Actinovate it's not really much good 4 weeks after opening, but will be great the last month of the season when you really need it.
