First time DWC!

Hi guys,

First post! Have been a coco grower previously but doing my first DWC grow and I’m sold! currently on day 40 in veg cycle and will possibly flip in about 10days. I’ve never had my plants looking so lush and green.

Next grow I’m definitely thinking of a recirculating system as it’s quite a bitch during water change without a main control tank.

Cycle: Veg - Day 40
strains: Power Africa Fast & Northern Lights X Skunk
Lights: nanolux 315cmh
Tent: 2m x 1.2m

Here is a pic of the ladies. What do you think?

Must be pretty difficult doing change out's without disturbing the roots. If you had a control/epi centre. You could have an area to work with that isn't disturbing the roots or constantly shining light on them every week you do a change.

Here is an old photo of one of the first RDWC systems I started with:

Yes mate! I should have done the recirculating from the start! Lesson learnt. At the moment, I’m transferring them individually to another bucket, where they sit in for 30min, while I do the reservoir change. So far the roots are doing ok, but the real test is when they start to flower.

That set up looks the bomb!!!

Few tips I've learned from my research if you upgrade to rdwc
1 1/2" pipes and no smaller for drain or roots clog
Keep the system simple supply, drain
I like bulkheads a lot better than uni-seals
Square buckets
Keep the brain tank outside the tent if you can, it helps keep water cool.
The more you spend $ in Dwc, the more complicated things are at first, but the easier your life is down the line.
My favorite luxury items include
Ac infinity, automatically turns on and off according my specs

Bluelab doser and guardian (doser makes life SO much easier)

Pvc floats work great to fill storage tubs of RO water, and as top offs for the RDWC system

Leak sensors have saved me more than once from a huge mess and dead plants

In addition, PLAN YOUR DRAIN. you are building a system, incorporate a drainage system that isn't manually done and save yourself a lot of headache.
I simply put a Y on my return water spigot right after my pump. I can turn the valves on and off individually, so the water circulates, untill I switch the path on the Y and the water gets pumped up and out of the room, and down the drain.

Thank you sir for the sound advice. You’ve got me going and I’ll be researching these products! I’ve seen this design from growrilla and thought it was simple enough. Could expand on the system easily and modify ie larger pipes, square buckets, etc

Never heard of leak detectors, but very interested! Well worth for peace of mind!

Question. What’s your recommended placement on Water pumps? Outside or submerged? I see yours is submerged? Does it affect water temp?

I just started current culture buckets for the first time.
They are bit pricey but if it's a great milestone to work up towards.

I built my system and it probably works just as good, if not for half the cost. JMHO
I always reccomend the water pump be inline, not submerged. Your water temp will go up much faster if you submerge it

I'm getting ready to order this set-up. This guy is really conscientious about his builds and the prices are extremely reasonable. He has some good rationale as to why he builds them as he does.

I've done DWC several times in single non-circulating containers and have been happy with the results. I'm really looking forward to trying a recirculating system very soon. Your system seems to be working pretty well for you.
