hey, im new to the whole world of growing.i have built my self a small growing area in my closet, erm i know its not the best in the world but im new and dnt have much cash at the moment. i will be looking to buy better equipment at the end of the month so bare with me people. any comments welcome good or bad.i have uploaded a few images of wat ive done so far, just planted the seeds yeserday after germinating them for 24hrs. thanx all

That little light isn't gonna be enough once your plants get a little bigger. I suggest getting some high wattage CFLs soon.

yer im hopeing to get some cfls near the end of the month, these seeds are auto-flowering dwarf seeds, do you think that they will be ok till then end of the month?

any body got any more advice regarding my closet grow? i realy need all the help i can get to be honest lol. im hopeing that my seeds will sprout within a couple of days, so any advice or comments are all welcome thanx all

You're going to need more light by the end of the week, forget about the end of the month. Your plants will get tall and spindly and fall over. You want short bushy plants with lots of leaves. The only way to do this is with more light. If you have to, spend $20 on two 4-packs of 26watt CFLs and scrounge together a bunch of lamps to point at your plants. CFLs fit in any lamp socket(except the ones with dimmer switches). Lamps can be found a lot of places, often for free. Go to Home Depot and get socket splitters so two bulbs fit in one lamp. Here's a temporary setup I used for a while.



Anything to get more light on your plants.

Get rid of the foil...it's no good, white walls do a better job. Get some more flouro's, they'll do a better job once they get bigger.

Sure, more fluoros would be better than CFLs but I was thinking we were on the strictest of budgets here. A four-tube fluoro setup is $40 at least. These CFLs are cheaper to start out and IF you add to them, they'll grow big plants just fine;-)

how many cfls and wat wattage would u say be ok to grow my first set of plants? i dnt realy have any cash at the minute to spare but i have to find a way it for my babies

That closet I showed had six plants with a total of twelve 26watt CFLs. So you'll need at least two 26watt bulbs per plant. That's just for veg. Flower is a whole different story. I suggest you save up about $100 for a 400watt HPS by then (about a month from now). That's what I did and look how nice it turned out.



This strain is called White Lady.

Nice looking plants for cfl's. +rep for thoes sweeties.

This is my flouro setup...10 4' tubes, works great for what i need, I even flower in there as well...i might not get as much yield...but my buds are covered in trich's.

how much ur light set up cost u homegrownboy, and o you know of any good websites wher i can get lights from? and wat watt are they? and thanx mared juwan for all thouse tips i will defo look into those cfls. an more advice welcome.

You want the highest wattage you can find. The temperature matters somewhat (6500K is supposed to be best for veg, 2700K for flower), but wattage is what's most important. I use a mix of colors. What exactly is your long and short term budget? That's the most important thing to consider here I think. Homegrown's input is really good to have because I have never flowered under fluorescents or CFLs, only HID. Maybe investing in fluoros upfront and keeping them in place for flower would be better. The buds will be less dense and you will need to keep the plants a lot shorter but it will leave money left for nutrients which you haven't mentioned yet. All the light in the world won't help without proper food for your plants.

I haven't spent very much at all...some of the ballasts I already had...I think i've spent about $60 on lights. They are just average 32W T8's that run about $4 canadian each and the workshop lights were $17.95 + tax each, all which I got from Home Depot. The spectrums are as follows...7-5000K and 3-3000K.

It's very easy to keep my room a perfect temp of 75 at almost all times.

The HPS was an option but i decided to try this way out...since i'm not out to make $$ i don't care about the quantity, but rather the quality. These flouro's setup is proving to be succesful, my plant which is 15 days into flowering is already covered with trich's. Here's a few pics from today.
