First Time Grow - Blue Widow - DWC bubble bucket - Would love to hear your comments!

Hello fellow growers. This is my first grow and I would love to hear some feedback from some experienced growers. I started this grow on August 19th 2012 and I am now into week eight from seed. I did six weeks of Veg and put it into flower cycle 10 days ago. The seed is a Blue Widow and it was planted in a Jiffy Pellet. On the third day it started to sprout. Within two days it was about an inch and a half tall, so then I put the seedling in the net pot and placed it in the DWC bucket. I am currently using Advanced Nutrients, Cal-Mag and H2O2 as my nutrient mixture. I have been using a light mixture so far and it seems to be doing ok and slowly bringing up the nutrient level each week. I also started this plant under a T12 florescent light and I have recently moved it to a 100W UFO LED light. I have posted some pictures below and I would love to hear everyone's opinions, Negative or Positive!

hey plant looks great but it seems to be deficient (Magnesium maybe?) check your ph to make sure your macro nutrients are not being locked out.. i just strted a dwc grow also and im growing some blue widow so im actually excited of seeing what to expect from it. also the roots seem to be a little brown? i'd spray paint the outside of the buckets black because it seems like its letting some light in and thats probably why the roots looking a little brown.

i think with dwc the most important things are water temp and ph.... if you dont have a ph meter id suggest you get one because its so crucial, and you can get a pretty fancy one for around 80$ that will measure ph and water temperature keep that ph in the 5.5-5.8 and water temp around 60-65F

i bought some rubbermaid short 3'X1.5' bins and 12 coleman icepacks for coolers containers were 8 bucks each and fit 2 buckets and the ice packs were 1.80$..... put the buckets in the bins fill them up with water and put some ice packs in the outside water... keep some other ice packs freezing so the next day you can switch the melted ones for frozen ones. Depending on your ambient temperature that should keep your water temps nice and cool (around 65F).

its a minimal investment but i think is absolutely necessary and really 120$ of equipment can mean the difference between an shit yield and an amazing one....
hope this helped... ad you can keep using them for future grows!!!!!!

good luck.

You got the same phenotype as my Blue Widow grow. SAME plant hahah. It'll produce colorful buds/leaves towards week6/7/8.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the comments guys... Yeah, I had a Magnesium problem in the beginning, as I said, I have no clue what I'm doing, just been winging it so far. Been doing a lot of reading the plant and logging everything day by day though. I'm also using RO water so I did get some Cal-Mag, but I was using a light mixture in the beginning, but after I bumped it up, it started looking better. 99% of the plant looks good I think, except that one bad leaf and two other bottom leaves with a few spots. I also have a PH & PPM meter and I've been trying to keep the PH right around 5.8, but let it swing between 5.5 and 6.3. As for the roots, I've been using H2O2, but can't seem to get the brown roots under control, but the plant looks great I think, nice green color and perky leaves. Any more input would be great though, like I said, I'm here to learn and grow! ;o)

Ohhh... While I'm thinking about it, does anyone know how many weeks of flower before harvest? I still haven't figured out grow times.

Thanks BigBuddahCheese and to answer your question hotrodharley, I put in a little over a half pot of Hydroton Expanded Clay Grow Rocks, then set the Jiffy Pellet on top of that, then covered the top with more Hydroton. I tried using Rockwool cubes, but wasn't having any luck with them. I also took a few clones from this plant and I also had better luck with the Jiffy Pellets.

Hello Psibersyn, As for the Peat Pellets, I've not had an issue with them getting into the bucket. If you do it properly, the water will never touch the pellet itself. When filling the bucket, you only need to bring the water up just past the bottom of the net pot. Then as the roots grow, you drop the water level.

When did u started counting days? When the seed was planted or after it sprouted? I started counting after it sprouted.

I think, speaking from growing the strain, your looking at atleast 8 weeks. My buds began to swell around week 7 with purple hues.

Don't know if i mised it but u need base nutes... AN sensi bloom A+B is good. also big bud, and b-52 will make u smile!!!

Hello... To answer a few questions first, straw206 I planted the seed on 8/19/12, it sprouted 3 days later on 8/22/12. Also Downinit, it was hard choosing what nutes to use, but I ended up making the decision on going with Advanced Nutrients A&B and from what I've read, I've also been using Cal-Mag because I'm using RO water. I've only had one problem with it so far and that was because I wasn't adding enough Cal-Mag in the beginning. But, ever since I figured out how much nutes and Cal-Mag to use, she's been looking great. Today is day 75 from seed. Looking to harvest her here in the next 3 to 4 weeks I'm hoping. She smells like FRUITY BUBBLE GUM!!!

AN Sensi Grow/Bloom, Dutchmaster Silicia and Root Zone Conditioner, Kushie Kush, Cal-Mag, and that worked very well for me. I made sure to flush 2 weeks... The kushie kush has some serious NPK values.
