First Time Grow/Mystery Seed

Well this is my first post, and my very first grow. Just finished my set up, not sure on exact dimensions right now. There is pictures after this text.

So far I have the seed germinating. It's been about 31 hours since I've started the process. A small crack is starting to happen, so I imagine soon it will be time for its new home, a 16oz drink cup with Miracle Gro: Organic Choice Potting Mix.

So far my set up is one half of my closet, I have the ability to go as high as 6 feet. But I have it cut down down to only a about 3 feet or so. I'm running 3 x 23 watt 6500k CFL's (had a 4th, but I dropped it) going later today to get the replacement, and a few backups.

And that's all I really got for now, so here's some pictures.

I also use the MG:OC potting soil for my grow. I highly recommend mixing it 3:1 with some perlite. And don't forget that you won't need to feed your baby for several weeks with that soil.

How many plants you looking to grow? Because under them CFL's (including the 4th you dropped) you would only want to do one plant/

Yeah I am just doing 1 plant for now, seeing as how it's my first grow. I will be replacing the broken light today after work, and I'll be picking up possibly another 2 of the same light to add some more light in there on Thursday when I get paid.

Thanks for the advice on mixing the perlite with the MG, will pick some up today before i plant it.(will be ready to plant by the time I'm home tonight) Took a bit for it to germinate, but it's finally coming out of its shell. And yeah I know I don't need to feed her for a few weeks, thanks for the heads up though. I could see how a newbie wouldn't know any better haha.

I'm also going to be encasing the grow space a bit more tonight(will take pictures). Too much light is escaping for my liking. Will prolly bring a big cardboard box home from work which is about 3' high 2' wide and 2' deep, prolly a bit bigger actually. Not positive though. And yeah, I'll be painting the inside of the box white to reflect the light off.

Just a little update, I replaced the bulb. Have 4 more bulbs to add, not sure if im going to yet or not. Maybe add just two if i do.

Went out and bought some perlite and mixed it with my soil, and finally planted her today. I don't have any pictures of her in her new home yet. Just a few of the new set up, well not new just updated.

You can't see it in the pics, but I have a light timer. I'm going to run at 16/8 before switching to 12/12.

Once they start to get real big your gona want to keep feedin them with more light. Start goin for the 42 wats so those girls can get prime. Keep lights close monitor canopy temperature and get a fan in there.
Once everything kicks off that is :)

Yeah I have the fans ready, I have two old xbox 360 fans thats im going to hook, each one has two fans each. So I'm going to have to fans exhaust/two fans intake. And yes, more lights will come with time. Right now I have the ability to go up to 164 watts, right now im running 107 watts. Will add more once I build something to hold the new lights.

Here's the new light set up with one light directly over head the cup.

Should be popping through the soil anytime now!

Day 2 of being in soil.

5 since start of germination.

looks aight man but you need some better reflection too so i would use mylar or panda paper but if u cant afford it go with the dull side of aluminum foil. some say foil causes heat spots buut that is the shinny side in my grow i have dull sides and reflective top and ground for lighting under the leafs.

It popped through the soil today. I woke up this morning to this and was pleasantly suprised. Pics when I get home from work.

Here's the new light set up with one light directly over head the cup.

FYI: CFLs throw their light primarily off the sides of the spirals and have a dark spot off the tip, so that light you have directly over the cup that you think is pointing light right down on your plant is actually throwing it's light at the walls of your box. Not major, though, because of the other 4 angled light you have them and the vertical bulb is just adding to lumen saturation.

There she is. Sorry the pic quality sucks, I'm having to use my phone for the pictures. My roommate is not home and she has the nice camera.

We're on Day 3 and going good so far. Tomorrow I upgrade my grow space. I'm buying a storage cabinet from Home Depot and converting it into a growbox. And also a 1 - 2 gallon pot for when I transplant.

I slightly watered on Day 1, soil is still moist. So I shall wait for the next watering.

So here is the new space!

30.3" high
16.0" deep
29.5" width

Inside is black right now, however in the next day or two I will either be painting or putting mylar up.

I will also be eliminating all the light leaks seen below, along with adding two fans for ventilation.(intake/exhaust)

I also added more light, I was at 107 watts.

Now I'm running

3 x 23 watt 6500k cfl's
3 x 18 watt 6500k cfl's

For a total of 123 watts.

Also on Day 5 now, plant is looking good and healthy so far. And I promise I'll start having better pictures. I'm having to use my blackberry lately. I'll buy a camera on payday or some shit.

looks like a good start man, im using cfls in a closet, got at least another 40 days till harvest, check out my journal keep up the good work

Well I'm gonna consider this post my Day 6 post. I was at work or else I would've posted earlier.

I transplanted her before i left for work today so coming home was scary. I didn't know what to expect, her to be in shock, ect...

But I come home and she is doing fine. Adjusting to her new and final two gallon home and the adjustment of her 123 watts of 6500k cfl's lights very nicely.

Here's some pictures from about 10 minutes ago, soaking up the "sun".

Also, I really need to install some intake/exhaust fans. And yes I am going to get rid of the foil. I'm going to paint it white on payday, along with install the fans right now with the fan inside and the door cracked I can get it to about 78-79 degrees, and with the door closed up to about 82-83. The 18th can't come soon enough(payday that is). So much to get haha.
