first time grow room!!!!

hey guys i have about 1500 bucks to actually spend on constructing the grow room... i would like to run 3 600watt hps lights for flowering and 3 t5 lights for veg. im looking to grow about 20 plants but if you guys could help me with these questions it would help greatly

1. i need a basic list of everything i would need such as for like intake exhaust co2 air cooling....

2 for security im going to call up the electricty company and tell them i have a mass grow operation and i wouldnt like to be messed with... no actually i was gonna tell them im starting a fabricating business and it would explain the power usage and could they install an extra breaker box.

3 is there anything else i need to aquire/know

if you guys can answer these thanks so much... stay high:spew::joint:

hey bud, do a little research, follow a few threads. I can tell you Sun Systems and HTG Supply have good lighting from what I seen. your gonna need some monster fans to cool depending on size of room. DONT call the electric company, not smart. People in here run 600 watt HPS all day, and I have read a few where the run several 1000watt HPS, and they have not thrown a red flag. your gonna smell, so you will need ot buy or fabricate a carbon air scrubber. they cost from $250 USD UP. probably some cool tubes. If you have experience growing these terms should all make sense to you, and you should be able to follow. if not, then revert to my first sentence and gain some experience. I am not trying to be rude, cuz I did try to help you. but there is a lot of knowledge already on RIU. just observe some of the folks that have been around here for a while, you will learn a lot quickly.

The Urbangrower on You tube has a few videos where they describe how to change a grow room with in and out vents to being a sealed room with co2 and AC. He also has his own website urbangrower.com. And don't raise red flags with the power company. :bigjoint:

$1500 lmao

You better sit down with a pen and paper and do some figgerin! You ain't got enough money to think about growing that big. Hydro or dirt? Get to that later. Why go with 600, you'll only wish you went bigger later. 2000w example.

1000w ballasts 330 ea
Hoods 180 ea
Bulbs 100 ea
Timer 50 ea

x2 ea = 1320

You also need
8" inline fan 300 (room exhaust)
Temp controller 150
CanFilter 200
6" inline fan 200 (hood exhaust)
4 wall fans @ 60 ea
ducting 200 (depends on run)
power cords 100
6" inline fan 200 (fresh air intake)
Speed controller 30 (intake)
Dehumidifier 300

= 1920

You cant even think about Co2 or AC, so lets leave that off. I will also assume that you've got sufficient 240v & 110v power available, with recepticles set up and waiting.

Hydro or dirt? bag seed? Clones? You'll need all of the equipment for that. Nutrients, monitors, bottles, RO water, reservior, pots, medium ... etc. get the picture yet? Have you even looked at the prices of T5s? Are you building a room or buying a tent?

Then you can look forward to monster electric bills long before the first harvest :) (Mine was $600 last month w/ 2000w) Sorry to piss on your Cheerios yo. This hobby is not cheap.

i was thinking about getting x 3 of these

and i live in Ny they take this to the next level over here. its unbelievable so i didnt want to raise any flags at all an electricty bill jumping from 70 bucks a month to 600 it seems pretty odd dont you think? i need to be extra safe security wise.

i was going to use subcoolers super soil mix in the 7 gallons it seems to have pretty decent yeilds.... but if theres any better nutrients i could you in soil ill use it.. I'm going to veg for 2 months and flower for as long as it takes for the plants to finish..

what lights do you suggest i use to veg with? if i have to you metal halide i will and what wattage.

one of the main reasons why im growing is because there are nothing but shady dealers in Ny and its a once in a while thing you will find that good dealer... then he gets locked upped and ounce of high grade can run up to 650 and thats just way to much for me.

any help from all of you will be greatly appreciated... stay high

This is all really great info and exactly correct as you'll need a lot more than light. More light = more heat and heat will kill your plants and yield.

I've been ordering and budgeting for my set up, and I'm going the spared no expense route. I want to do things right. Now that said My budget is going to end up around $2k it looks like. This is for a 32" x 4' x 8' closet. I've uncovered some great deals researching and looking around so while not unreasonable, I think many of the items smokingrubber listed could be had for less without compromising quality. My budget includes a 400W HPS, 175W MH for Veg, 6" and 4" inline fan, carbon filter, quite a few different nutes, various controlers and timers, testing equip and environmental monitors for temp/hum/Ph/EC/TDS/Co2, Co2 tank and reg, wall fan, mylar, pots, soil, and various other small items that will be needed such as tools and wood.

I'm happy to share the sources I've uncovered for good deals but it's important to remember that you need to address all needs of a plant to do it right, so much of your budget will need to go for things other than lights. The bulbs/reflectors/ballasts I plan to use total about $520 or around 1/4 of the total expected cost at this point. I ordered 3 strains 10 seeds each and that set me back about $220. Considering that cost alone and the required effort that goes into it, make sure you do it right.

The questions to ask yourself are;
- do you want to do soil or hydro?
- What is the size of your space?
- How will you start the plants and where will you get them from?
- What are your living conditions like/how "stealthy" does this need to be?
- How long do you plan to keep this up?

"A fool and his money are soon parted." I'm not calling you a fool, but I would never buy an open hood ... or a 600w (that's just me, many people get great results from 600s). I just think you should do it right or not at all. Plants need good light, good climate, and good nutrient. Fail to supply one of those properly, and the entire grow will fail. You should do a bunch more research on sucessful grow journals. Find a journal that has plants like you want, and grown the way you envision growing them, and make sure you see finished bud at the end of the journal that shows bud like you want to grow ... and pay close attention to the size of the finished plant and their required space or lighting ... add money, rinse and repeat.

All of the items I listed can be found in various deals and packages, and the prices vary. Those are prices close to what I paid for my equipment. I don't buy cheap tools. I'm sure you can find quality tools for great prices on ebay, but you have to know what you're looking at and looking for.

Right now, I'm in the process of buying the equipment for a new garage grow. That will be 4kw in two 5x10 tents, Co2, hydro, 16 total plants will put out 3 to 4lbs every 30 days. My budget was around 13k. It's gonna be close :( It takes money to make money.

I have just started out also i have a 400w in a 4x4x8 it seems to be doing great but also could be better obvisosly with a 6 or1k light but its my first time so why spend all kinds on your first set up my set up cost me less than 600 bucks for now using co2 generator i made cost me less than a hundred to put my cabinet together with 1\4 inch ply wood and 2x4s . i have a few friends that helped me also with some black and white plastic or else i would have used vapor barrier or tin foil, light i got lucky and bought it for 100 bucks with the bulb and hood i looked on( kijiji and craigslist),i had a 12 inch osc fan laying around and threw that in too.this is the beginning of a new hobby for me the way your talking it aint theres all kinds of things that can go wrong in your set up not including the health of your new born babies id say for 1500$ get the basics lights ,fans, something to seal your room in like mylar start slow get some experience first hand and then graduate on to the next step. remember they are weeds and will grow almost any where!just to let u know just for co2 setup budget just for that you would be ok with 1500 actually its the monitoring system that makes it expensive but if you pass one good batch theres that monitor you were looking for. have fun best way to learn is trial and error i think!

These are 4 of the sites I've found through a lot of searching that seem to have good deals on various products.

http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/index.php
http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/index.php
http://www.hydroponics.net/items/default.asp
http://aeroponicsnmore.com/
http://www.sunlightsheds.com/sitemap.htm

What I have discovered is prices may be excellent on a particular product from one vendor, but other items they carry may be more expensive than the norm. This has led me to "pick and choose" certain products from one supplier and shop elsewhere for a better deal. So far I have placed orders with aeroponicsnmore and Sunlight sheds. My order with sunlight sheds was shipped promptly and arrived in good condition, but they didn't have the main product I wanted to get, CFL bulbs. They no longer carry them. Customer service was excellent however, and I wouldn't hesitate to order again from them. I have not yet recieved my order from aeroponicsnmore but I expect it will take a few more days in shipping. One advatage with them is any order over $100 gets free shipping. If you're after something like nutrients which usually sell for about the same everywhere, you'd do well to get them with free shipping here as it could be expensive to ship from elsewhere.

if your concern about security you might want to look into buying a generator. It cost a lot but it keeps you off the grid, good luck.
