First Time grow

This is my first grow. Its a small closet grow. I'm growing Northern Lights Auto Flower. Two plants. Cfls 4 X 23 watt (I just ordered two 85 watts to add to this). Soil: MG Moisture Control (NKP: 20-7-14). No supplement nutes. Planted in 2 1/2 gallon pots. My idea was to keep this as simple as possible. I know everyone says not to use MG soil, but the mositure control and auto nutes seemed worth it , as most mistakes made by noobs is to over water and nute their plants. Below are pics of my two plants, day 7 after germination. They a look a little small to me, about one inch high, but maybe thats the normal height of a AF. Let me know what you think, suggestions. Oh, BTW, that plant had only 4x 23 watt soft whites and 1x 20 watt cool...

Very cool. very similar to my setup. you went with a sog setup. how did that turn out for you? I decide to just keep it simple as I can. No topping, trimming, fimming, sog, scrog, nutes or anything. Just gonna let them grow and learn the basics first. When my plant goes into flower, I will replace two of 23 watts w/ two 85 watts. thats should give me the lumens to get two healthy AF, I hope, if the MG doesnt bite me in the ass lol

She yielded about about 35 grams dry, but sadly, I have no budding pics of her, cuz my brother borrowed my camera for those 2 months of flowering...I did so many experiments with her, she was topped, lst'd, and sog'd...haha...that mg should keep your babies fed for a long while...BTW, are they from feminized seeds???

Most people hate mg but shit i use it just not there soil.i grew short rider last year and they turned out good...looking good

Looks good so far remember to keep those CFLs close to the plants

Preist: The lights were about one inch away but today I raised them to about two inches. I know I dont want stretch but damn, my girls are only like one inch tall, so I moved them up a little lol. Smokeslikebob: thats not a bad yeild at all. Think I'd be happy w/ about one OZ per plant. Yes they are feminized seeds. I dont trust myself to spot a male just yet lol. Your grow room just gave me an idea: I need some of that "box wire" you used for your webbing. I could make a stable platform to hang my cfl clamps on. They are hanging right now and they tent to twist, moving the lights off the plants center. Thanks for the idea.

haha...glad my first home-made box helped you! haha...I just took an old shoe rack and repositioned all the elbows and formed a box...threw some card board over it and BAM! A 2x2x1 grow box! haha

Three inches is best thats what I did I found out that if you put them any closer the leafs slowly loose moisture and burn. Just in case it helps heres a CFL box I use View attachment 1078929

In the pic you can see the stems, you mention stretching earlier that was a problem I had with these but I eventually solved it but giving the plants bushmaster when they hit the roof

yeah, I also encountered slight leaf burn if my 42w cfl was closer than 2 inches

I use and swear by MG potting mix. I do amend it though with perlite and worm castings. The only nutes I provide for vegging the first 2 weeks is Fox Farm Big Bloom and that is because it helps establish healthy roots. It works great with my hanging flower pots outside, so why not for my weed?
