Hey all,
As you can see by the title, I’m going to start my first small grow as soon as my seeds arrive. I’m growing an auto flower outdoor with a seed to harvest time of about 65 days. I plan on planting in 2.5 gallon pots right from the start with no transplant. I’ve already bought some FoxFarm Ocean Forest soil and have Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger bloom coming in as well. I only plan to you about 50-75% of recommended dosage as I’m scared of nutrient burnout. I live in the northeast so I’ll be battling with pests and animals for the length of the short grow. I picked up some Bonide organic insecticidal soap as well as Bonide ready to use neem spray. I’m a little confused with LST and how often you are supposed to retrain or train another branch. Anything advice or tips you guys could give me would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

I’m going to get some Happy Frog and make a solo cup sized inset for my seedling in my Ocean Floor to start off in. Do you think I should feed mutes in the meantime until it reaches the OF?
Happy Frog will have plenty of nutes for them until they reach the OF. I would suggest a slightly larger inset than a solo cup so early seedling roots don't reach the OF too fast.

Awesome, thanks again. I’ll definitely make it a little bigger. I appreciate your advice and will putting it all to good use!

You are not going to need nutes for months. Most new growers overfeed. Its quite possible you can make a whole grow with just Ocean Forest if your pot is big enough. Do not start feeding.

I’m growing a small auto strain- Lowryder #2 from Seedsman. Plants shouldn’t get any larger than 18 inches. I got myself some 2.5 gallon pots based on the fact that it should only be about 65 days from seed to harvest with particular strain. Thanks for the heads up. I think I’m going to shelf the nutes and use them on my tomato’s instead.

Is it better to plant in separate smaller containers first or do the method you and myles listed? This is my first grow and this is the first time I'm reading anything about digging out a hole within the nutrient rich soil as opposed to planting seeds in separate containers. Do you not risk the seedlings getting nute burn with that method?

My only input is DONT GO OFF OF THE BREEDER PACK FOR WHEN TO HARVEST (65 DAYS)
Its usually never is that time frame.

When harvest time approaches... take pics and check back with the growers here to make sure it's done.

Good luck

If ur growing in Maine your gonna probably need some sort of canopy to cover ur weed up during heavy rains or gonna need to take it inside during choppy that weather

Ok my dude, I’m from Canada I’m 27 and I Ben growing outdoors for 13 years , for starters 3 gal is way too small for outdoors even if there autos u wanna have a bare minimum of 5gals ,7-10 would b perfect.. secondly if u can keep pests out with a chicken cage stakes down do them straight in the ground dig a 10 gal hole and I backfill it with 3.8 cubic foot bags of peat moss/perlite bags @70%, bout 20% is compost cow manure rly old I get it from back of pile it’s dark and rich with humus an worms.. other 5-10% is worm castings I only mix that in the top half of my medium more toward the top though it helps keep predators away outside. Especially if ur pre ammending with Gaia green or sumthing organic and dry. In your case u using fox farm that’s cool.. only feed ur plants every 2nd or third watering never go back to back with feedings on your autos and always go super light when in veg and only half strength beginning of flower up to maaaybe 2/3 strength on back to back doses mid flower or sumthing like that then a good pure watering with only molasses or sumthing.

Never over water, only water when ur medium is dry an water from outside
, in keeping water away from your base stock after ur plant is well established an beginning to flower cuz ur roots r gonna go super wide not that deep an u don’t wanna get stock rot! I’d only start feeding ur autos on day 12-15 with literally a 1/8 strength feeding of your fox farm, then feed water c how she looks if she ain’t extremely dark green an looks sumwhat limer green or pale in the leaves that’s when u bump it up to maybe 1/4 of a feeding, just baby it your much bette off your first grow doing that then to start feeding heavily., if I was u I wouldn’t feed @half strength til they begin flowering.. depending on your strain I guess. Your plants will aporeciate mild training outdoors even if there autos so when ur on day 20 ish an u got a nice lil bush going on don’t b scared to take the top and slowly pinch on it and work it down just bow it slowly breaking ur tissues but not the actual plant stem. U will have a flexible plant that way that gets more sunlight which ends up giving u a lot more bud sites for when it goes into flower 10-16 days later. Once it’s in flower don’t tie down after u c a round white fuzz ball for a bud, up until u got a pinky finger size bud u can bend an tie em down tho, after that ur stems will harden up anyways n that’s when u wanna either stake the main/heaviest colas up!

Also, never transplant an auto unless your going str8 in the ground n your scared birds gonna pick up ur germinated seed u just planted, if u going with a tiny 3gal germinate it and plant str8 into your final pot.. cuz if u don’t u run a risk being a noobie that youl shock the shit out her and delay your “already way too short” veg time of 23-35 days , if u got super autoswhich most are nowdays anyway. Then you may be ok to start in nothing smaller than a solo cup giving your plant a special transplant window of about 12-14 days from sprout when ur 2nd set of true leaves touch the outside of the cup an u got 4 leafs beginning to overhang your cup is the best time generally to transplant cuz your plant ain’t root bound yet but starting to circle your cup an usually u got nice side roots ready to explode into your new medium u transplant it into to

Then just hope when u transplant out your solo into the ground @day 13 from sprout or whenever u do it, that it doesn’t go into shock fer 3-4 days then begin to flower 3 days after that @3-4 weeks old cuz that’s when u will have baby ass autos that only produce half an oz

Day 38/39 flower, Barney’s farm- 3pc gorilla zkittlez, 3pc 8ball kush, kera seeds 3pc blue cheese (discontinued strain by kera, it’s an old pack and the blue cheese r much smaller than the Barney’s ones for only being 6/7 days younger look one plant far left is just 1 giant cola for a plant wit literally a couple buds on the side lol. I planted the germinated seeds str8 into there final 7gal fabric pots and ran them 31 days from sprout before flipping for the 2-2.5 foot Barney’s girls, lookin like a few oz a piece maybe 80 grams on the biggest one? The blue cheese went bout 24 days from sprout there stragglers tho biggest one bout 1/3 the size of the Barney

Don’t listen to anyone else man take it from me being a genuine helping guy.. been at this forever my dude. For starters your auto gonna probly run u like 25-33 days of veg time from seed before it starts to flower and I’d count on like 55 more days after that Man U looking at like 80+ days from seed to harvest not 55-60 that’s jus retarded bro never listen to the idiots writing on the packages..u gonna want a bare minimum of 5gal for a pot, also don’t throw no pesticides on your plant at all either. Unless ur day like 37 and ur plant is infested with mites er sumthing. which is rare outdoors.. Just cage your plant in nicely so nothing can fuck wit it you should b alrite using liquid nutes animals don’t fuck wit it as hard as they do wit dry organics. During your first month baby it with water never drench your medium rite down heavily until u got a 6-8” chunky little plant too you want them roots to search for new boundaries. Which is why watering from the outside,in helps make those tentacles stretch way out an latch down wide. Youl b surprised how far them roots will go if you give your plant a large medium to swim in. U will figure out the rest I basically give u all the information you need in the above posts on training, essentially what u wanna do is wait til day 18+ when ur plant is becoming sturdy before u grab the top and bend it down for increased light penetration. Autos are sensitive to nutrients and youl have a much stronger/potent plant giving it less, only feeding it when it looks on the hungry side rather than pounding it with your fox farm early on. I’m a veteran grower and these tent plants got advanced nutrients 3 part very similar to your fox farm it’s badically the same shit tbh. All I did was start feeding micro doses from day 9-10 from sprout every 2nd feeding I’d put few drops of micro n grow n bloom maybe adding up to like 300-400ppm, til day 16/17 when it had a good few sets on her is when I started giving like 1-1.5ml per gallon of m-g-b which is still super light, I fed nutrients most feedings thru my veg but mine are photo’s and I never went above 750ppm in veg, in flower I ran mainly feed feed water @800-900ppm building up to 1000 ish for a couple feedings by day 8/9 of flower when I swapped a lot of em over to organic dry ammendments, and again on day 30 flower I’m day 40 today outta 65/70, I top dress with 2-3 cups worm castings per 7gal container inbetween my flower top dressings to help the voodoo juice I added earlier keep my microbes active. Dressed wit Gaia green day 8 of flower @14tbsp per 7gal pot, bother 8/9 days after the Gaia was built into my medium nicely I dressed in the worm castings, then I jus give more Gaia green on day 30 (22 days after first Gaia top dress) and I only feed with molasses now and a pinch of advanced nutes big bud supplement here n there that won’t hurt em any if u got a strong healthy plant like mine

Awesome man, they look great. I'm going to pick up some bigger pots today. I'm not planning on harvesting in exactly 65 days, that was just kind of meant to be a reference point for the rate of grow. I definitely don't plan on transplanting as I don't want to have to give up the time for shock recovery with an auto, plus as i see they tend to be a little bit more sensitive.

You’l do good just remember, a plant can only grow as good as the soil you give it, and each plant are so totally different in their own ways man pheno wise, just don’t get too down on ur self if you c a weird growth pattern at first or sumthin that’s normal the first few weeks to c sumthing stupid but it usually works it’s way around, also sum plants will surprise u , u will have a shitty vegger then when it hits flower it’s a BEAST etc. Anyway have a good one hope I gave u some clear insight the guys on here give me shit cuz Im Canadian n im not the greatest At putting words right. Cloning is the best way to go Once u see a nice seedling become a beast take a clone keep that n toss the rest.. I’m relatively new to indoor tent growing I have a few cuts for next run tho . This run for me I had to take what I got within the 9 seeds I cracked.. I got a tall 8ball kush pheno that has the biggest buds too/seems like it gonna finish earlier as well! So I kept her shes 31” all my other plants r bout half a foot shorter. She’s monster cropped taking her outdoors, same wit gorilla zkittlez n blue cheese few took from them. Here’s few pics from few days ago days 35-39... it’s all about good genetics, good soil and not over watering them, and a bit of training make sure u do a light lollipop on her if u want a bit better yield of higher quality buds.. u wanna stress ur plant out a bit threw weeks 6 on to create a bomb of THC. Your plants self defence mechanism is to create more thc when u starve them of water later on in flower, let ur plants droop a bit once a week for a few hours from being too dry then feed them a nice little watering and they will produce good for u just don’t keep your soil drenched 24/7 an you will b fine

I actually decided to go with some 5 gal smart pots and I’ll mix my soil with some perlite to help with drainage and root growth. Definitely gave me some good input that I will carry over to my grow. Thanks again!
