Hi.

Just a few weeks ago i started some experiments with some seeds ive got from a friend.Myself im amazed of the looks of marijuana plants and of course of their buds, so ive decide to start experimenting with growing 1 or 2 plants and get them to maturity.
Im using a wooden closet, used to be full of cloths, now replaced by my little plant. The light im using is a 23W CFL 2700K warm white and i was wondering if i should be adding any other cfl's or the one im using should be enough for 1 plant.
The soil im using ive got it from a local market with starter nuts, like Ph value of it is 5.0-6.5 and the others are all between 150-500mg/liter, which states that will last for up to 8 weeks.Watering ive been doing it whenever i saw the edge of the soil being dried out and up until now only using distilled water.I dont have a temperature controller, so the usual temperature is between 23 to 28 degrees with a fan running on room temperature continuosly.

Ok now a few things on what i have done until this day.

Ive started with using a paper towel for the seed which sprouted in around 28 hours.I didnt had any cfl's for the first 5 days so at start it stretched for light and at some point instead having its 2 leafs upwards she started curling downwards entirely.Decided to set the plant closer to the light and after one day first 2 leafs got burned by the heat, so went and bought a 23Watt cfl and set the plant around 5-6 cm away from the light, amazingly she recovered. All went good until a couple of days ago when ive decide to raise the temperature and burned the plant once again.Prolly heat stressing caused the edges of some of the leafs to turn yellow and by now brown.Unfortunately some of the small new branches have been affected aswell and their edges are brown, is it a problem or they will continue growing even though the signs of burning are obviously there.

Im thinking of not using any nuts until like 4th or 5th week, although i have some signs on some of the leafs that are curling upwards, might be some deficiency or to much nuts? From day 6 i'm using the cfl on a 24 hour cycle with the fan on room temperature on same 24 cycle.Im thinking that until i have some more experience and a 100% suitable growm room for my weeds to stick with what i have atm and see what i can get out of it.

The pictures that ive added are from when the plant had 9 days up until today when it just started the 16th day,in one of the pics u can see the 2nd plant which is doing pretty good, but for that ill make another thread, cause i should be avoiding all the problems i had with the first plant.

Ive tried to do some close shots of the leafs being affected by the heat, although not really visible in the pics for some reason.

So, im asking you all to check my plant out, see if anything is wrong with her and if possible to give some advices.Any informative advices will be highly considered and apreciated.

Thank you and sorry for my bad english. ;)

Put your lights 1-3 inches from ur plant & paint the inside of ur grow area flat white, as it reflects light better...as for ur little 1s they'll be ok, doin good man

Hey there! I was in your shoes 2 years ago. I was using CFl's until i was like wtf this shit is weak! Then my buddys brother let me borrow his HID setup. He had everything i needed. I was using a 400 watt metal halide grow light. Then as months went by and my plants went from experiments to huge buds which stunk up my house i still went full steam ahead with the growing dope idea. To sum up my life lesson I got decent nutrients and let mother nature due her thing. I was rewarded with a high rewarding blown batch of reg. It was seedy and premature but i learned so fucking much i cant put it in words. Keep growing and watch the colors because it is truly a sight watching your babies grow up to be big and strong. :weed:

agree with other posters above... what you're doing might work... but if you really wanna make a go of it, buy a book or two, watch some videos on YouTube... Knowledge is power and when it comes to growing, that statement is very true.
as far as your lights... you will most definitely need more CFLs... but you may also want to invest in some HIDs instead.
as far as for when to feed... you just gotta watch your plant. You can't make a blanket statement, such as "I'm gonna feed in week 4", you gotta watch your plant and make a decision based on what she needs.

Good Luck, Hope this helps, and the RIU family are good people with some good info... enjoy!

Watching those videos on youtube or some other forums are the first reason why ive decided to grow these plants and see what result im gonna have.Momentarily i havent noticed if its a female or male, even if its a male, seeing it at its maturity will be an acomplishment for me.

As with the feeding i agree with you. According to some soil expert this soil im using is a bit tricky, ofc he didnt used it to grow weed but said that it should have enough nuts for over 6 weeks(on the soil sack says, no additional nuts need it up to 8 weeks).

As for the light cycle, ive have been reading some threads and so on, do i have to change to 18/6 cycle after the 3rd week or i can let it on a 24 hour cycle till flowering stage?

Thank you.

The lights are close enough and the little one is doing ok.As of today she started to grow rapidly :O, was away from for 10 hours and when i camed back i was amazed how much she could grow in those 10 hours. Its a nice feeling to see them grow with each day.Hopefully ill get some experience from these first 2 plants and give it another go once their cycle is completed.

Another question i might have.Watering them with only distilled water is it ok, or should i use some clean water as i have a lake near by. ^^ Without a PH meter might be a bad ideea to change the water?

This is how the 4 day old one looks like. These 2 pics were taken yday, those 2 small leafs are now almost same size as the 2 big ones with the 3rd pair of leafs pumping out already.

Ok another problem that ive runed into.As i have just watered my plant some weird small worms started to crawl out of the dirt.Im stunned of what could have caused them to appear and aswell i want to do something before i get a swarm of them or turn into flies or whatever those are.Is it possible that something was in the soil im using or the dirt was to watered and with the warm to cause them to appear.

Some fast help would be nice if any of you runned into such a problem.

Ok a more concluded situation on the latest problem ive got.Ive noticed that after each watering these small larvas pump out of the soil and jump around if i try to catch them and kill them.So did a fast search on these guys and found out they might be Springtails, or perhaps a bit worse Fungus Gnats.Sprintails from ive readen arent a threat for the plant but the fungus gnats larvas are an issue.

Hope to be Springtails :D. Fungus gnats? havent seen any of those ones flying around.

Ok, neither Fungus Gnats or Root Aphids jump around so it must be Springtails(fingers crossed), ive been abusing youtube and some threads here on RIU since ive discovered these little larvaes but havent found a straight answer.Im thinking to transplant it tommorow, but i was wondering if it is possible to have got those larvae from the soil i bought.Anyhow tommorow will be the decisive day to see if my plant is infested with Fungus Gnats or Root Aphids(which i hope it wont be the case) or with the Springtails. If there are springtails it might be a bad ideea to transplant it as from what ive readen Springtails indicate that the soil is good and doesnt need transplanting or any chemical usage.

Still opened to suggestions on how could i get rid of them, or if i should still keep it in the same pot in the hope that the infestion wont get worse.

Dude if it was me id be scared as F . Ive never had any run ins with anything but deer and pissed off friends. Either deer knocked over like 20 of my plants i was in the process of transplanting to outdoors last year. But what size are your pots? maybe pictures its almost impossible to imagine what you got going on. If you have seedlings or short containers your plants are in like a 12 oz drinkng cup or some shit try gently washing the roots with warm water from the sink, this process has worked when i tried going from soil to hydroponics half way in the grow. Try that if you know itll work but only you can judge and pics before you do anything that can jeopradize the fate of the plant take pictures and lets see whats going on. Look up the different benificial and non benificial insects that like on and in cannabis maybe you'll come across the bastard harming your crop. Good uck partner and check out my grow journal. Im trying a scrog outdoorss like 20+ female plants outdoors my first grow over 10 plants . PEACE

The infested plant is in a 15L pot.Ive transplanted it from the cup she sprouted in the current one after 1 week from sprout and she is doing good even now.Apart some leafs that got heat burned she is developing quite good.Ill try to light water it again tonight and see if i can catch those little ones crawling out of the soil exactly when i water, but damn they are fast and jumping around and as the water drains they go back in the soil pretty fast.
Last night when i watered the plant ive noticed like 10 of them tried to kill some of them and thats when ive noticed their jumping. So instead going directly on using some pesticids i left it like that, kept and eye on the soil and plant for a couple of hours on a 20 miutes interval for like 5 minutes each time to see if i can see some of them crawling on the surface, that didnt happend. They camed on the surface only when i watered the plant.

Looking at their size and how fast they are probably it will be impossible for me to catch them on camera, but will try.Im just hoping that i dont get loads more of them on the next watering as im planning to let the soil dry almost completly, even if i risk to have the plant underwatered .

Another thing that troubles me is that i have my little sproutling in the same closet and hope that she isnt infested aswell.

Will get back with info as things develop or those crappy bugs dissapear!

Day 18.To sum it all, seems like im dealing with a bug infestation(which isnt currently a strong one).Aswell first 2 leafs died or are currently dieing.I tried now when i camed back from work to water the plant lightly to see if those weird larvaes pop out of the ground again and try to catch them on camera.Surprisingly havent seen one yet, probably i have to water it as i usualy do(will do that prolly around friday).

Here are some pics with some of the leafs that are in trouble or died.

Here is a pic with the top leafs on which some of them are turning to a light green and the tips of the leafs turning yellow, any advice on what may cause that?

And the 2nd pic is with the single baby branch that is going very good, no burns, no yellow spots, no dieing.Rest of the baby branches are either burned or turning black, signs of dieing on the edges.

Update on my plant

It reached Day 21 since sprout.

The inner branches have really started to grow, some of them almost reached the top of the plant, struggling to come out from the top bush.

I havent watered it for like 6 days now since the first signs of tiny white larvae crawling in my soil, been spotting around 1-2 flying black fleas around since so i still have no ideea if im having Gnats or Springtails. But the plant in the last couple of days have grown quite alot, seems happy atm. Ive added some new pics aswell which are made yday(day 20). Still under 24h cycle of light and aimming once it reaches 4th week to start 18/6, to reduce the plants stress on switching 12/12 in a couple of weeks.

Cheers for checking and still waiting on some advices about those things crawling in my soil ;)

Day 28th since sprout.

The larvaes are still there but no flies around so i am pretty much sure those are springtails.

Did encountered some other potential problems. The leafs on the top are from growth yellowing but it does not extend to the entire leaf.Any advices on how to counter the yellowing?

Here are some pics from my 4 weeks and 2 weeks plants.

Slacked a bit with posting the photos due to shit loads of work lately.
So an minor update on my plants.
The small one decided to drop it and gave it to a friend as the place where both were growing was to small for both of them.So im left with only one which i now know for sure that shes a female with the "pistols drawn out and ready to start shooting".
If you guys followed my posts you might know that i started growing it with a single CFL, now she is under 3 CFL's(100w ones warm light).
2 days ago i switched the lights from 24 schedule to 18/6 light schedule cause was afraid that switching directly to 12/12 might stress the plant to much and stunt the growth,im thinking that starting with week 6 i should start the flowering stage.Dont know if she is ready for it yet but i would like to have some opinions from some more experienced growers if the time to switch to flowering has camed.

Here are some photos of my plant on day 36.

your girl has really gotten big
Indeed :), she is still growing like mad around 5-10 cms/week with alot of branch development, seems that adding more light helped alot on growing and as of 2 weeks now ive started using some nutrients(6-4-2), nothing heavy atm just only like 1 tea spoon on 3L of tap water.

First 3 weeks she only had nuts from the soil but slowly some yellowing and things like this started to appear so ive decided to start feeding her, although at start i said to myself that i wont be feeding her anything apart what she had in soil.

One thing ive noticed yesterday when i watered her.The middle of the pot/soil near the stem is becoming a bit harder then the edges or close to edges. Some roots popped out :O , i dont know if its something normal or not but the plant doesnt seem to be affected.

Cant wait to see first signs of bud forming, it is a real pleasure to watch her grow. ;)
