First time grower ☘️ is it really necessary to do LST ?

I just let mine grow natural most of the time, my last grow I had to do a lot of defoliation in week 1 and 2 of flower, but other than that I don't really mess with them, as long as you have a decent amount of light you will still pull a decent yield :blsmoke:

With a stretchy haze variety I reckon the best bet is to top it for 4 heads let them recover and grow abit then flip it. A 4 way top isn’t out of the realms of a beginners capability and it will be so much less maintenance and headache than lst. That is my advice to you as a beginner. Top for 4 main stems and lollipop. Once u get a harvest under ur belt you’ll feel far more comfortable tying and bending stuff.
Hope this helps

I know what your saying. Just seemed off the wall to just come out say I have 2 grand in equipment like the op asked what you got and how much spent. Like you had a huge pocket put into your grow. 2 grand sounds like you just started as well.
Oh no, absolutely not. He said his light was 2k equivalent and spend 80 some bucks. I just gave him what that actually is. We all start at the beginning!

I've got three Purple Haze seeds that I'm going to be planting here soon... And as a first time grower even though I have grown other vegetables and what not I just wanted to make sure that I'm going to have a good experience I don't want to have to do anything that would really put my plant at risk although I do see that low stress training when done probably can really help I'm just honestly concerned about you know losing my first plants and my first grow.

So what would happen if I just let it grow naturally and do nothing to the plant except just take care of it and don't worry about any sort of cropping or defoliation or topping or low stress training?

I mean I'm not against the idea of doing LST, although maybe LSD is better. ️

So I just like to get some more input about this before I even begin to go on my growing journey which is looking to be about March 1st right now.

Thank you. ☮
Good topic hopefully some other new growers will read. I started growing and never did LST and these last 3 grows I have done with LST have been awesome man. I'm still newer to autos and getting my lights right and feeding down. But LST is thr shit! Welcome to RIU :bigjoint:20220211_150533.jpg

It’s not needed, it helps keep height in check and keep bud sights exposed to light, but the plant will grow without it. I’d put them in a tent or closet under that light though. 220w so look for like a 2x3 space or a 2x4 tent use 3/4 of it for canopy with that last foot of the tent for a fan or something.

Im going to weigh in on the opposite side, I myself find LST very useful and I will never not LST. I start LST process around 4 weeks or so, after the plant has developed about 4-5 nodes. I find by topping and training this allows for better structure, increases yields, and over all a better plant. If you are just planning for a fast run then LST may not be suitable but for someone like myself who does over 9 month veg runs LST is an absolute must.

nobody said it’s not useful though, just not essential for the plant to grow. It’s definitely useful lol.

Training, topping, manifolding, opening light shaded areas, scrog, bend, tilt, whatever.
It’s help overall yield. And that’s it. Potency is in the dna. And a non trained, non topped plants will still be absolutely wonderful smoke.
however. You’ll be kicking yourself in the butt when you only have a fraction of what you could’ve had.

I tried doing my last tent grow all LST. I got the sites but won’t do straight up LST for a grow again. I didn’t like the control factor like I get with my combo of Quadlining and LST with cleaning them up before and during the first few weeks of flowering. Probably my favourite result was from my G13 Labs Blue Cindy plant I grew almost 2 years ago. Will try and find a picture to share

The plant likes to send the most energy to the growth most exposed to direct light. By topping and/or lst what you are doing is manipulating the growth to give other parts of the plant a chance to be the main growth focus or develope evenly. Also by topping one top you will then start the growth of two new tops in its place while allowing for the growth underneath to catch up. Just a way to get more tops or main colas with an even canopy. Of course it's not necessary and some plant will grow like bushes no matter what. I also to think it give more of a chance to develop solid main trunk.

Any light coming through that window at night will cause your plants real problems when they start to flower .

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your light isn't what you were sold on. It will grow plants but not very big. Light penetration is minimal, the further from the diode. It's also not a true 2000w. Definitely a good beginner light and the price was right.
Yes, yes, I'm aware of the actual wattage draw.
