First time grower - Lighting question

Hey there. I'm new to growing but have been reading all the info I could get my hands on. I'm planning on growing 2 plants strictly for self-supply (I'm just tired of dealing with shady people, getting ripped off, etc.). Anyways, my question is:

Would 1 florescent light tube be enough to supply 2 plants with enough light for their entire lifecycle?

uh if you are on a budget might i recomend CFLs. They are efficent and put out large amounts of light. Try snooping around the CFL section on the site.

it will work but your buds will be airy spidly and harsh to smoke...for 2 plants you want a min of 150w hps...or about 300w of cfl.....this is of course if you want to have a decent yeild.....:joint:

Alrighty. I have a heatlamp that my brother used to use for his iguana. I tried growing once before (2 plants) and they got 7 inches high before they got infested with bugs and had to be destroyer. Would that support 2 plants? And where would I find CFL lights?

Buy some small tubes, some spiril lights or something. THat is really all you need. If you want check out my grow journal in the grow journal section on the site. I'm trying to keep the plant as small as possible and only use fluorescents.

Hi:

The lights you choose are one of, if not the most important decision you will make towards growing. I use two four foot tubes to clone/veg, and they are barely sufficient. I am using 1000 HPS for buds.

You get out of it what you put in to it. Personally, I don't want fluorescent medicine. I don't understand peeps cutting corners and taking chances that could discount your yield or potency.

I would use any wattage of HPS I could get my hands on if I were you. I checked the tubes I use with a light meter and they aren't anywhere close to the strength of HPS. Even a 150 watter would be better than ten cfls IMHO.

Dude, heat is usually the enemy, especially in summer so ditch the heat lamp.

I highly recommend a cooltube, dont get the 400, get at least 600w. And dont get a crappy ballast either, go with a ballasts that you can use both MH and HPS. You should set aside at least $300 for a nice light. The light is your single biggest expense and directly effects your crop more than anything else. Heres my 600W cooltube setup.

Keep in mind the better light setup you have, the better ventilaltion you will need too. Do it right the first time and dont piss money away on cfl's unless you just cant afford a REAL grow light.
