That's a dangerous smell dude. Fire hazard. If you touch the power cord and it's hot, you've got a short circuit somewhere. Have a trusted friend that knows about electricity help you out. Power down until you figure it out.

Make sure the reflector doesn't have some plastic coating on it you were supposed to remove. I made that mistakevwith a BBQ lid once!

It's totally normal for the first few days running those kinds of bulbs that they burn off the "new electronics smell" - it's just that they get a bit hotter than a TV or playstation, don't listen to these people, all CFL's smell like a microchip on fire for a few hours the first few days.

mine either, sounds like a cord getting hot and melting inside. like LT said, touch all ur wires none of them should be hot or even warm for that matter. if they are @all then u need to upgrade ur gauge of wire before u lose everything over a $5 cord

My CFL's had no smell at all.. brand new.

I'd say don't listen to Brian and better safe than sorry. Burn down your damn house over a MJ plant...

you sure it smells like plastic, maybe it is dust, if nothing is getting hot I would not worry about it. if the smell gets worse then worry. my thinking is that they are new and that you are smelling some dust burning off. I mean what does burning plastic actually smell like. :-)
