first time grower, need help!!

so i cant get my mh bulb to work...it fits into a reg socket but wont light up, other people on here have said i need to get a specific ballast for it, and i ordered wat was advertised to be a converter for it, it screws into a reg socket and it supposed to support a mh bulb, but it came into and it was huge, way to big for the bulb...can anyone offer any help or advice, thnx

Well, so far every MH and HPS bulb I've seen, the base is too big to fit in a regular socket. And they don't work, without their own ballast. Post a pic maybe, of the bulb you have, maybe we can figure out what you got going on. I doubt a socket by itself will run an MH bulb. HID bulbs, they don't control the amount of juice running into 'em - unlike a regular lightbulb. The ballast controls that, instead.
