, what would you suggest in trying to work out when to flush and harvest.

Wtf would you want to bin them to begin with! GAH.
If it's not hydro, you don't need to worry about flushing.
As far as harvest goes, you need to read the trichomes to know when to chop. Do you have a magnifier or microscope? It needs to be at least a 60x magnification IMO.
