First Time Growing/Help?

Well I started to germinate seeds, but someone found them and now they're gone and substitued for some fucking catnip.

ANYWAYS, I'll be getting some seeds within the week, and basicaly right now need help on the setup and necccessities of a proper grow room.

I plan on wanting about 3 or 4 plants at the time, due to space. I will set it up in a rubbermaid bin in a closet. Inside the bin, to start, I will start off for the lighting with two 60w compact fluorescent bulbs.

Now here's where I need the help, since this is my first time. Inside the bin, what do I need? I'd rather not have a ventilation system, but if I do need one, I would like the most easiest and cheapest way to set one up.

I will use a soil medium.

I'll report more as I get the seeds germinating.

its gonna have to be a pretty big rubbermaid tub if u want 4 plants. what temp r the bulbs u have? check out the thread on fluorescent bulb temp. it will help. You arer definitely going to have to get more light bulbs in there if u want a good grow, it would be a waste of time and money if u were just going with two bulbs u might want somewhere around 8-10 bulbs maybe even more for flowering stage for 4 plants.

i suggest before you grow learn these basic things

I don't know the temp of the bulbs, I do know that they are both 60w. I was planning on using those two for the first stage, andt hen when they got bigger to swithc over to bigger cfls. The rubbermaid bin size is basically two stakced on top. Not one with a lid on it.

Thanks for the reply :weed::weed::weed:

Yeah, first thing is first read up so you know the difference of all the bulbs to use, soils, nutes, temps humidity etc. Read as much as you can on here first, Also if you tight on space, you should consider a perpetual 12/12 from seed grow like I do, for more info on what that involves and a link to an example of someone that does it very well you can go look at this other thread where I am helping someone get started.

Just read through the thread to get the idea of the process and check the link that I give him in that thread for an example.

Thanks. I've read up on all the soils and nutes the other day, but I will definately read that thread. I've been pretty restless this past week and ahalf with work and no weed for over a week. Very frustrating :cry:

So I need to grow :weed:

Thats what I did in a rubbermaid, 6 plants, only 6 27watt CFL's.

There is like 5 pages of pics. I, personally would never FLOWER under CFL's. Most get light, fluffy buds. I start under CFL's, and go under HPS. You can get a 150watt HPS (which would be good for like 2-3 plants max MAYBE) for like 20$ online. I would def. try to invest in a HPS for FLOWERING.

I know, I know, you have seen people get some amazing results with CFL's; seed - flower, just if it's your first grow, I wouldn't start with CFL's thinking your going to get any real weight off 4 plants.

When I started with the CFL's everyone told me I needed like 3 PER plant, I stuck with what I had, and I'm VERY happy with the results. I'm about 4-5 weeks away from harvesting the plants in that album. I vegged for long intending to keep them as mothers, but stuff got flustered and I didn't get the chance to do what I wanted. Those are about an 8 week veg under 27watt 5500K CFL's. kept about 2-3 inches away at MOST times.

Thanks a lot. Do you think the two 60w Compact Fluorescents will do the trick until flowering?

depends on if they are 6500k's or sumtin like 2700k's.. if they have a yellowish look to them they are the 2700k's which are ok for flowering but not that great for growth in veg. If they are a bright white almost like a blue.. They are more likely 6500k's and are what you need for veg stage.

Also are the really 60w CFL's or are they equal to a standard 60w. That means a huge difference read the packaging carefully, or the base of the bulb. Becuase a 60w equivalent CFL is only really 13w. So make shure you check that.

CFL's equal to 60w incandescent are usually only 13w. they 27w CFL's are equal to a 150w incandescent. I got a feeling he actually has a 13w CFL. Like you I have not seen a 60w CFL.

ON the bulb it says 14w=60incandescent.

so i have two of these, which would equal to 28cflw

My 27's are equal to 100watt.

I wouldn't recomend anything less than the 27watters though. You need to find out what temperature spectrum. 6500K is IDEAL, but anything over 5000k works good for Veg.

Ok well, those are not enough, go to lowes you can get a pack of 4 23w CFL's for like 8 bucks I think. Get a pack or 2 of those and make shure they are 6500k

Nah man. You don't ad up the wattages on the CFL's.

You need blue spectrum. Thos 13 watters are MAYBE 2700K. It will grow your plants, but it's not what your plants need. Those low temp bulbs are RED. Which is needed during flower.

Completely wrong bulbs.

Just screw them into a regular light bulb socket. What I do is get light bulb sockets that plug into a regular outlets, and I plug them into a power strip.

Look at the album pics I posted.. I have pretty much the setup your talking about, just not one on top of the other like that, I used the lid as the frame more or less, and used a power strip like Sol said. The outlet to socket converters are like 1.50$ at Homedepot, and the 2 way splitters are about the same price.
