Hi there, this is my first time venturing into the world of hydroponics and I decided to set up with a dwc. I have two grapefruit diesel girls going and I am one week from flowing. I am using Advanced Nutrients - grow, micro, bloom, voodoo juice, b52. Im at 6.1 - 6.2 ph and around 1100 ppm. I plan to use Big Bud and Overdrive in flowering as well. I am under a 600w hps and I am in a closet. Doing "okay" on temps, 71-82, and my humidity is hanging 55-60. I was just wondering if anyone with some experiece with dwc and hydro, or advanced nutrients. I have read alot on the forums and have already learned so much, thanks alot for that! I forgot to mention, I'm in an apartment, so odor control tips would help tremendously! thanks!! :)

I get to start! First of welcome to RIU. Few pointers. You wanna drop that humidity a little bit I was comfy around 40% when I worked RDWC. I would actually recommend it. #2 DONT let your water temps go any higher then 70! personally 65-68 is a good number. Root rot, lockouts, mildew you name it it can happen if your temps get above 70 in your buckets.Odor, I have 1 ionizer in my flower room, a small one in my veg room, and for shits and giggles one in my living room... They work wonders. Other questions?

I tried ionizers and in my opinion, they are junk once you have some potent plants flowering in your place. I have 3 of them and the only reason I didn't trash them is because ionized air is indeed healthy, it just doesn't do well killing pungent odors. An ozone generator on the other hand works wonders, but it still won't get it all....

I would try to air seal my grow area (a tent works great in apartments) and get a vortex fan and carbon filter and exhaust back into your apartment or outside if you can.

Thanks for the info guys. I have the Cap OZN-1 ozone generator and I have an active charcoal filter but I have heard mixed reviews on it. Its the filter on Discount Hydro [ http://www.discount-hydro.com/productdisp.php?pid=581&navid=23 ] You know anything about that one drty? As for the humidity, most of everything I have read was saying 60-70, thats why I was keeping it around there, but I can definitely see with the roots submerged in water and then that much moisture in the air could be "over watering" pretty much. Im sitting at 43-50 now. Have any tips on inducing flowering? I'm six days out and getting pretty excited!

I am doing a DWC setup next grow similar to yours. However I feel that a 600w hps (are you using a MH bulb for veg?) is strong.
I figured two plants could run under a 250MH through bloom. Although your lights is 4 feet from your plants you are losing 80% of your lumens.
A 600watt HPS puts out the same light at 4 feet as a 300watt T5 does at 18 inches.
Anyone else on too much light in small grows like this?

Oh yeah, see if you can tie in your exhaust fan into a vent that goes out to the roof, like a stove hood, hot water heater or furnace pipe, etc.

no such thing as too much lighting, thats like saying that you have too much pizza, no such thing
Agreed, 16 watts minimum per square foot & if possible, throw in some UV lighting as well to strengthen those budlets. RH during veg is optimal at 50-60% but you want to down it to 30-40% during flowering to keep bud mold at bay. Be careful with the ozone usage because if it's seeping back into your apartment & you're breathing it, it can destroy your respiratory system in too large of quantities.

Great info guys, thank you. I do appreciate it. My light is always 20-24 inches from the plants. I ran out of funds on this one so I will have to wait but I do plan on trying a MH on my next go. I also plan on setting a separate flowing after I see how well this one goes as I am alittle weary of being in an apartment. Thanks for the info PeteSwitch on the ozone, I didn't know that too much ozone was bad for your respretory system. I haven't started using it yet. It's kind of my back up to my filter. I figured if I started smelling anything I would flip it on.

YOU WILL NEVER BE DONE WITH THE GROW ROOM SOMETHING BETTER IS ALWAYS OUT THERE. BUT REMEMBER, JUST BECAUSE THEY SAY ITS BETTER DOSENT MEAN ITS RIGHT FOR YOUR GROW ROOM, damn caps lock, sorry.

try and be more efficient than saving money and you will save more money in the long run..
