First Time Hydroponics, 3rd Time Growing Indoors.

Ive always had good luck growing outdoors in pots or in the garden and even in the wild, but I haven't been so lucky indoors.

After a couple not so good grows, Ive decided to upgrade my closet. It is 3'wide, 7'long, and only 5' high. The first grow had only a small fan for ventilation and we had a 1000watt bulb, without a hood. We had 3 big 7 foot plants that we dug up from outdoors, bent them over and shoved them in that little space.... and it turned out badly. they all got white mildew on the leaves and just kept spreading so we just killed them and trashed them.

The second grow I got a 200watt sun-blaster CFL bulb, and had some better fans, and this time put up Mylar and that reflective stuff for the windshield of your car. I brought one ShortRider I had in a pot on my patio from home, and it grew pretty well, it was really nice and green with lots of white hairs, it got a really big and fat bud like a beer can and twice as tall, but than I noticed a bunch of mold inside the bud, so I picked it and dried it, cut out ALL of the moldy parts, and ended up getting only around 10 grams of dried bud, off of the bud that was 72.5 grams wet when I picked it.

The 200watt light worked way better for my small room... but I still didn't do to well. so for this third grow I'm going to use that light. I am going to try a Hydroponic Deep water culture grow in a Rubbermaid tub this time, with 5 plants. and if it works out I'd like to eventually get 4 or 5 Tubs going in different stages so I can harvest every few weeks.

I have everything I need to start, I just have no Idea what to use for nutrients..... for soil I used Plant-Prod 20-20-20.... what do I need to get for Hydroponics? and how much will I go threw with a 38L tub?

Sorry to hear bout your past indoor grows , yeah they need a lot on ventilation , and even with good vent mildew is still possible. Well hydro has so many differnt nutes a lot depends on your budget. Just look for something with more N for veg and more P & K for flower and make sure it has all the macro nutes in it. I dont think you should go thru to much cuz i doubt you will be growing 5 big plants in a 38L tub thats rather small its only about 2 gal per plant , but you will have to change a lil more often when they get bigger. Growing a lot of plants or big bushy plants close together requires MORE air circulation as long as you got the in check you should be fine. Plus all these Guru's and wonderful people would be more than happy to help. Good Luck,

Happy Growing!

The simplest thing would be to have a browse on an online hydro shop. Check what they're selling, it will be under 'HYDROPONIC NUTRIENTS'. another thing I would do would be to see the results of grows that impress you on this site. Copy what they're using.

GHE Nutrients is a popular 3 part nutrient. but maybe you'll find it easier to use a single part nutrient. Best thing look at EVERYTHING they sell Online and read their descriptions..

Ive tried many different nutes for my hydro. All of them worked well, some better then others. Finally I realized I could be spending this nutes money on some lights or clones, or new bongs. SO I went with what works for the cheapest amount. LUCAS FORMULA, using General hydroponics MAXIBLOOM. Ive been growing with just this for about a year and half. During veg and flowering. I love how much money I save on nutes and it works great, you might miss a few grams off other 3 part nutes and boosters. But what matters is it works and how much money you save.

Its dry nutes, so it last forever.
MaxiBloom is a dry nutrient from General Hydroponics. Maxibloom, used in a ratio of 7 grams per gallon of RO water, is very close to the original Lucas Formula (above.) You do not need MaxiGro, so this is the cheapest and easiest recipe to use.
Add 7 grams of Maxibloom into 1 gallon of RO water, then adjust the pH, and stir vigorously to dissolve the Maxibloom in the water. Lucas advised of putting the 7g of Maxibloom into a cup of warm water, dissolving it, and then adding it to the remaining gallon of water. Adjust pH and mix.
Hope this helps ya.

I went to the grow store, I was in a bit of a rush because my ride was in a hurry, but I talked to the guy there and he told me what the best nutes for my setup would be.

I went with a locally made 3 part one. Holland Secret's Micro, Grow, & Bloom.
the micro says 5-0-2
Grow is 2-1-7
and Bloom is 0-6-4
I hope this works

I have the following:
38L Rubbermaid tub
Air pump/hose
Air stone
Nutrients
PH tester
Thermometer/Hydrometer
200w cfl
Fans

I was in a hurry so I forgot the Net-pots and rockwool, so I need to get those still.

Is there anything else I need before I get started?
Can u grow different strains in the same tub? or is it better to have all the same strain?

All this talk about saving money on nutes, I don't understand it. 2 grams of my Bud would pay for enough nutes to produce a lb in bud. crazy how some people look at things

I'm thinking about getting a water pump, and rigging up some pvc pipe and some sprayers, I saw that in a video somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly how it works.

I don't know how powerful the pump should be, I found one on ebay that pumps 200L/hour for 8.99, would that be alright for a 38L container?

and how full should it be with water?

I Still need to get the rock-wool and the net pots, and the clay things for in the pots.

I think i'm going to be growing the 2 bubba kush seeds that I have, along with 1 ShortRider and 1 more, not sure what yet

The mister heads have a maximum spray rate. They also only spray a set distance..... Im using 'Hozelock' Spray heads. Each tiny head sprays at a maximum of 55L/H, so I need to give each head at least 55L/H. I'm using 20 heads, so thats 20*55L/H = 1100 L/H. ...... So a minimum of 1100L/H for spraying/misting through 20 heads.

BTW ... I have a 50 site aero cloner / 84L Tub / 20 misting heads / but I went for a 2000L/H pump(it was half price)
