First time Indoor.

I've done a few outdoor grows and got quiet some cash out of it. Now that winter is approaching I wanted to expand my knowledge base inside. I was looking at getting 400 HPS lights in a 1 x 1 x 2.15m grow tent. For my medium, coco peat/perlite with a natural compost mix I've been using for the garden. Using the tap water I got at home. My budget is roughly around $500.00. I'm using my local hydroponic suppliers website at the moment http://www.hydroponicsolutions.com.au/. I want to do some research before I blow any money.

If anyone could provide any advice or suggestions, or even point me to the right thread that would be very much appreciated!

Just bought A 220 solarflare LED, to replace my 250w HPS, the 220 replaces the 400w HPS. Might want to check this out. Almost 6,000 PAR reading at 2' distance from center.

Hey ugorg! This is only a local supplier. I don't have much to compare I kinda wanted to see what someone else thought of the place before I bought anything. I'll have a look at amazon but I live in Australia and I know that amazon doesn't ship specific items over here. If you have any good sources that are well priced, please I beg you hit me up! I already have seeds, I purchased some Lemon Kush. Pure AK, Grapefruit from Herbies and can't wait to use them. I can put together a good mixed medium, all though I need to do some more research regarding nutes. I have more then 500 but I only wanted something big enough to fit a plant or two. I have a lot of space in my bedroom and figured that I might just do it there.

Hey man not bad! Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't read up much about LEDS, I heard that HPS is more efficient and energy friendly than cfl. I don't know where LEDS fall in that spectrum.

If you will read up on how the light works, it will give you a better understanding of how things work. Just for an example, HPS only gives 6 PAR light per watt to 16 to as many as 50 per watt, for the LED. PAR lighting is the light that the plant see's.

Ahh I see! Thanks for the tip. That makes sense, So you pretty much want to do your best with the reflective material to help how much light the plant actually sees?

for 500 you could get a nice efficient LED panel, or maybe a few cobs in june if that a51 post wasnt a troll @ releasing cobs,
or if you are pretty certain you want HPS maybe getting a 600w dimmable ballast might be slightly more future proofed for you
