first time.. why not? right?

this is my first time trying to grow. i'm not doing this seriously but i thought i might as well give it a shot. i have germinated a couple of seeds and planted them in a clear plastic cup. i didn't expect any of them to grow but somehow one is starting too. i'm growing it in a bathroom right now so i can keep it slightly hidden (i'm doing this covert). all i have on it is a 60w light bulb that is about two feet away. it's a constant 80 degrees on the plant but i think it might be too far. this plant about three inches tall and has two green leaves and two tiny (but beautiful) pot leaves growing out of the top. i'm using filtered water so it's not turning yellow or anything. but does anyone have advice for a kid trying to grow just because he has some seeds? i'm worried that the plant might be stretching.

go to walmart but a cfl light bulb (the spiraly ones) and put it no more than 2 inches form the top of your plants

if your not serious about it then throw the plant away, your not gonna get anything. growing takes alot of work, you get back what you put into it.

i thought someone would say that. i am actually trying to grow. i just have a very limited budget and i can't make my room into a greenhouse : ) and i've decided to move my plants into my closet and buy four cfl bulbs for my little tyke. the bathroom isn't cutting it out for me.

there you go... make sure you have those cfls close. another cheap way to help grow is an emergency blanket, you can get them at walmart in the camping section, put it up on your walls in your closet, you will get alot more out of your cfls if you have good reflection...

i'll check out the blankets while i'm at the store. i've also seen people with half cut soda cans on the top of the lights. i'm thinking i might as well try that too since i can do it for free. does that help out much? and how about aluminum foil?

ive read that the cans work well, but dont use aluminum foil, it is only reflects like 40 perscent of light and once its crinkled its usless.. emergency blankets are cheap and are copmriable to mylar (hard to find and expensive) i only paid like 4 bucks for a 2 person blanket that i cut into peices and covered my closet and i still have about half of it leftover...

btw those emergency blankets are crap. just paint the walls of your grow room white. and youll need a real reflector for all those cfls for max penetration.

Well when I was your age....what are you about 16ish?
I tried to grow in my room, and had problems with light too. Get it closer to start off with.
Peace

do i really write like a 16 year old? i'm actually 19. and i have another question too. i'm growing the plants in a plastic cup. and i'm curious to whether or not i need to have a pot with holes on the bottom (so the water can drain, or something like that, i have no idea.). i just have my doubts about using the cup.

have you looked around the growFAQ yet?
yeah i read a couple of faq's pretty throughly. but i still had some personal questions that i want answered. mostly because i'm doing my low budget and quiet grow, whereas the faq's tells you mostly about a growers greenhouse, not so much my area. i'm just trying to get the best possible result at the lowest price. so i have to ask a couple of questions to figure it out.
