First Timers! Here is a clean simple DWC bucket.

I spent some time here posting this in a thread so I thought why not make a thread out of this :bigjoint: (it would have saved me some cash a year ago)

:fire:A tutorial on how to put together a five gallon dwc grow bucket. :fire:

Put that in one of these. Five gallon Bucket. Lowes


bucket's will work. Three dollars.




Then buy a medium. (hydroton here) I suggest going to lowes or home depot. Find recycled tire mulch


(10$ for life) or lava rock or pebbles. Any rock or


rocklike substance will work. Hydroton is 10 dollars for 4 liters or so. eBay or the same hydro store as above has it.


Cheap.


Then buy a 5 watt airpump (12$ on eBay) at either a hydro store or a aquarium store. 10 bucks or so.

The formula for airpumps in DWC is one watt of air pump power per gallon of water in bucket.

Then buy an airstone (1.00$) or or an airtube. A few dollars max.

Then buy the flora micro hardwater, flora grow, and flora bloom from the same hydro store. Look in the nutrient


category under GENERAL HYDRO. This is the stuff the astronausts use. It will last many, many grows. eBay has a 12


dollar tripack that will last one or two. Pay attention to bottle size, eBay=caveat emptor. (use yer head, lol).

Feed 15 ml grow, 10 ml micro, 5 ml bloom in veg per gallon or RO water.

Feed 0 ml grow, 8 ml micro, and 16 ml bloom in flower per gallon in RO water.

If under hid lights. Under cfl feed 0-5-10 in flower.

micro-hardwater This is the hardwater/tapwater version of Micro. It works like a charm.



You will need to start your seeds. Soak them in water for 24 hours first. In the dark. Then place them in these.


Rapid Rooters (12$ for 30 pcs). Then right into your system with a plastic clear cup
over the Rapid


Rooter for humidity. Also break a peice of one and place it over the hole. This is so




their is some dark for the seed until she sprouts. Here

I see no mention of what is feeding them until roots are in the water.

I usually just place my seedlings in pre-dunked and ph treated rockwool 1 row of hydroton rocks length above water level. "moisture mist" is what I call it but don't quote me on it. The roots usually drop and reach through the under current / DWC bubbles and grow well from there. Just make sure you block any light from hitting the bottom of those seedlings for the first few days or a week which I use Hydroton for and it works very well.

It isnt really needed. I just did my 1st dwc similar to the OP's...All you have to do for the 1st few days is take some drain water from the res and soak the medium a little bit. As soon as the roots hit the water, you no longer need to do this (and any dripper becomes uneeded).

I was skeptical at 1st but now i got lots of roots dangling in my buckets as proof.

loll, I must admit there is a few days, like a week of stress with this net pot lid waiting for them to grow into the water. DO NOT fill it up past the net pot lid! Very bad suffocation of the roots. Rather just pour some water over it once a day and wait. I did this and it worked but I have to advise that a better idea is to cut a hole in a home depot or lowes lid and put a three inch net pot into it. This is foolproof and fast. Within a few days the roots take the hell off.
The most important part is getting that air in there.
I only keep donator plants in these and use rock wool as my preferred medium in a flood and drain.
My advice for that is a 2x3 cement tray and a 27 gallon black and gold tote. Botanic are ebb fittings from ebay for 10 dollars shipped and a foot of plastic tubing. Harbor freight will have the pump needed. I got mine for 15 dollars once upon a time.
I experimented with sure to grow and it is great with faster flood times. But I got to love stacking rock wool blocks.
