First Update

Hey RIU!

Just wanted to post up a quick update on my first grow and maybe get a little feedback. I never started a grow journal for this since I figured I would fail my first time but next time I will for sure.

Here are my 4 plants. One Delicious Candy feminized. Two World of Seeds Pakistan Valley feminized. One Afghan regular. These were all germinated the same day and are now about 30ish days from sprouting. I know they're small compared to what you all can and have done. This is due to mistakes I've made along the learning process (using a humidity dome for the first 5 day, too much light, too much water, fungus gnats).

This is the Delicious Candy. Seems like my healthiest and fastest growing plant. She is also my tallest around 6-7".

These are my two Pakistan Valley. They are roughly the same size, ~5-6" tall and noticeably more compact than the Delicious Candy. Both seem very healthy to me.

This ugly mother****** is the Afghan Regular. It has been deformed and misshaped since birth. Short and squat around 4", it's leaves are perfectly healthy but its vertical and horizontal growth are stagnant. Today I realized that the same nodes on the stem are actually offset. Also noticed that one side of the 3-point leaves has 4 points.

Let me know you think!!

Hey @Sugarleafloni and @moondance, thanks for stopping by!

The grow room is starting to look better! Leaves are green, new growth is forming, and I can't spot any pests. I've debated topping them. My goal is to have a successful first season. Of course I would like a greater yield but I'm not sure adding the extra stress is a good idea for me.

Today I noticed this. A few imperfections on different leaves but nothing seems serious now.

If it were me I would wait a few more nodes of growth to top, I usually will wait until I up pot to 3 gallon, then top them. I will pinch a top off at the stage your in but I have to test the plants I use from babies for stress and abuse, so if I do it that young it's due to trying to fuck it up lol. I am a hard tester, i like neglecting and abusing my plants just to see how they respond. MD.

I agree with @moondance I'd wait till they get a lil taller before topping. I'm glad u got rid of the pest, and I'm sure they will outgrow those lil imperfections. Although, imperfections can b a blessing. I once had a plant that mutated and grew two tops without being topped. Was kinda cool. Lol. What r u feeding ur ladies?

I have one right now that did the same thing, it's a White Widow feminized. MD

They're in Fox Farms Ocean Forest right now and haven't had any supplemental nutrients yet. Only tap water that is pH 6.4-6.8 after sitting out 24 hours.

General Hydroponics Flora Micro, Flora Bloom, and Flora Grow just came in yesterday. Tonight will be their first feeding. From what I've read, people generally start with ½ of what is recommended and move forward from there. Attached is the drain-to-waste schedule I plan to use. I would consider this Early Growth but plan to use 2.5/2.5/1ml.

Also, my MH is about 18" from the plant tops and only set to 500w. Debating turning up the intensity to 750w now that they are more mature. Maybe try feeding first then wait a few days before turning up the light. Then if something goes awry I'll have a better understanding of what caused the issue.

Somewhat concerned this evening.

I fed the plants 24oz each of nutrients Friday night before leaving for the weekend. Tonight after coming home it looks like both of the World of Seeds Pakistan Valley aren't burned but are showing PREFLOWERS. The only variable which has changed was feeding them nutrients for the first time. As far as I know there aren't autoflowers.

If my counting is correct they are forming their 7th and 8th nodes currently. The cotyledon has fallen away so I am starting my count at the first true (serrated) single leaf.

Delicious Candy has blown up over the weekend and grown at least 3-4". I would say it is over 1 foot tall. Each original node has expanded considerably as well. This plant needs to be repotted into its final 5 gallon tomorrow or Wednesday followed by another feeding.

World of Seeds Pakistan Valley is just a beautiful plant. The growth over the weekend is noticeable but not extraordinary like the Delicious Seeds. The nodes are still evenly spaced with no stretching. Overall height in near 8-9".

Afghan Regular has no news. The plant is still short and irregular all around. The plant is not stagnant but no notable growth over the weekend despite its first feeding.

I'm noticing the fan leaves seem to be shading the undergrowth already and I'm debating some LST once I top the plant. At what height or how many nodes would you top these?

Thanks again for stopping by. I appreciate your comments and well wishes.

Just another quick update.

October 18th I gave a full Early Growth feeding. October 19th I noticed the leaves were darker at the bottom and I boosted the light to 750w from 500w but raised it about 6". October 20th I noticed the leaves were more than dark, a few had become burned. In hopes of preventing concentrated nutrients from being absorbed I watered again with 4 cups on regular pH 6.5 water. October 22nd each plant was transplanted to 5 gallon pots for their final home. This was incredibly late and a challenge. October 23rd I went ahead and topped one of the World of Seeds. Terrible timing for it but whatever happens, happens! Tonight October 24th I watered each plant with some Epsom Salts for what I believe to be a magnesium deficiency.

The Delicious Candy is making slow and steady progress. The height is roughly the same around 15" and showing pistils at a few nodes.

The World of Seeds twins continue being the best proportionate plants. Each plant is 11-12" tall. They are also showing pistils similarly to Delicious Candy. On a whim I decided to top one of the twins. (This entire grow is just an experiment anyway).

The Afghan Regular is ugly. And boring. And I don't like it. On top of that I think its starting to grow balls. Nevermind the nutrient burn.

On the otherhand, the other beauties are growing what I believe to be pistils.

Yeah that's what happened to my White Widow Female all on its own, I love how nature works. Very nice structure on those plant.

Is it common practice to clip and remove some of the fan leaves?

I'm noticing that some of the fan leaves, namely the ones straight from the trunk, are really blocking tons of light from other parts of the plant. Some near the bottom aren't doing well as it is. Would removing them be recommended and to what degree?

Another quick update!

After nearly two months since my original update here is how my garden looks as of now. Sorry that the lights are on. I've since opened several threads along the way for this and that. Overall I'm happy with how this experiment has gone and I hope to have quality product at the end.

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy!
