Floating seeds ARE still good.

Final Phase

Near the start of this grow I came into 15 seeds from a long time grower in Northern CA. I just got 14 Blue Mist seeds from the same grower. All the seeds came to me via a good growing friend. He told me he tried to get 15 of the Blue Mist to pop, but none ever got out of the gate.

I really wanted to get these to go so I read up on germinating seeds. I took the advice of someone who soaks their seeds in a mixture of Super Thrive - 4 drops to gal.
Seeds were soaked for 6 hours and found all 14 seeds floating...

I have read where some say seeds that don't sink won't work. Not true!

I did the paper towel in a baggy thing, but this time I did some thing different in putting them somewhere warm. My refrigerator is cool on the top - not good... So I put them on top of a plastic bowl that has holes in it with baggy in bowl. Then set it all on a 400 W MH hood.

I noticed the baggy was full of moisture today. Checked the seeds - day 2 and so far 3 have popped!

figgy is right ... i take very fine sand paper lightly scuff the outset shell .. that ensures the water penetrates the shell and gets to the inner.. old seeds have very dry outer shells that water has a hard time soaking and penetrating. i do it all the time regardless and very very rarely have a seed that doesnt pop... after i quickly scuff the outside i put mine in a 1/2 size solo cup. put them in a humidome setup with a heat pad under it.. water them every few days when needed and you'll pop 90% -100% if they are good genetics...

Cool - That makes sense and will remember for future use! Thanks
