flood and drain woes

Hi All,
So, I am trying to setup a couple of flood and drain tables, one for veg, one for flower. Basically, I have gotten all the parts I needed from home depot and lowes. I used 2'x3' rubermaid tubs for the trays, cut them down to 6" deep and set them up with flood and drain fittings I purchased online.
The pumps I purchased were the smallest pond pump I could find between the 2 stores. They are 200 gph.
Here is my problem, when I trun the pump on I get a 2 foot fountain of water from the tray inlet!! As you can imagine, this is a bit messy!! :-)

What am I doing wrong? Is the pump too big? It really is small. Can I constrict the flow somehow? PLEASE HELP!
Thanks

if your gonna use rockwool and just alternate wich table is flower and veg than whan u cover your tables with poly or whatever cut some extra to cover all the edges and your water spout should hit the underneath and hopefully not be a prob

You mean they didn't include the caps for the flood and drain fittings?? Maybe you could just get a 't' that will push the water to the sides instead of straight up. You will want to have some kind of screens on those fittings to keep any derbis from going into the res and clogging the pump. VV

What size hose/fittings are you using?
My set-up uses a 264GPH Submersible pump, 5/8" ID 40PSI water tubing, Inlet/drain 3/4" OD 5/8" ID thru-hull fitting with screen, Outlet/overflow 3/4" OD 5/8" ID thru-hull, and a 45" x 23" flood table. When the pump turns on this table will be flooded in about 1 minute, 1 ½ minutes max. This pump is strong! Elevation also has alot to do with how well the pump performs. How high above your res is the table?

Hi. Thanks everyone for the input!!
I think my problem is the 1/2 lines and fittings I am using, the pump is so strong that the tray does not even drain quick enough so I think if I had a 10 minute watering, the tray would overflow. I just ordered 3/4 inch fittings and hopefully they fix the draining issue, I took the screen off of a second flodd drain kit I purchased and put it on the inlet, this calmed down my fountain!!

From recent experience also make sure your drain line has a straight flow to the tank as well. If it roller coasters you will have a floooood!!!!
