no those flouros wont start a fire. youll be fine...but your plant(s) will want more light.

Shouldn't be a hazard whatsoever if setup properly. CFL's dont run nearly as hot as HID lighting, so, as long as you didn't setup your lights touching a big ball of wool or other flammable material, then you should be ok!

I had a 400 watt with no air escape, ran perfectly fine. Eventually me and my room mate just put a hole through the wall into the bathroom under the sink, then used bathroom caulk to seal a tube through it. Then we bought a 250 CFM blower and put it in thur.

no fire hazard but cool white and tubes are a poor light source, you want daylight (6500 K) CFLs.

yea its just one plant, and all i had it under until now was a 75w equivilent, but it was only 20w actual.i just went out to the garage and took the floro housing and bulbs to put in my closet cause i figured it would be better than the light i currently have it under
...i didnt want to flip it on till i checked with you guys

Well it depends....I used (2)CFLs 68watts 4200 Lumens each, (2) 24" fluoro grow lights from walmart 75watts 1093 lumens each, and (2) t12 20watts 1300 lumens each. The t12's are not efficient, but this set-up worked for me from seedlings all the way through veg...then i replaced the t12's with a small 150watt hps ($100). I'm growing in a small closet so heat is a big issue. I only have two plants in a DWC 5 gallon bucket. Light spectrum also varies from veg to flower...

Much better dude, hang all lights vertically over the plants as you have done dont wall mount (wastes light). I have pulled two ounce of 4x22 watt flouros before so dont worry about small veg plants. Under these veg till 12 inches whilst topping then lst and will give you a bit of time to get more lights for flower.

Glad to see you ditched those small puny cfl's and went with some propper lights. Notice how much brighter they are, rather have 20watts flourescent strip than 20watts cfl, imagine 2x20watt cfl compared to 1x40watt flouro.

Saying that change the flouro bulbs every 6 to 12 months for max eficiency. Plus get a small fan, flouros give off a little heat so you want some circulation at the least. I have my T5's about 7/8 inches from the plant and about right with a small pc fan, your t8's should go to about 4/6 inches at max from the plant tops if healthy but work it down to this.

I use cfl's and they suck dude, no way that cfl equivelant of 75watts is the same brightness as these two 40watt flouros.

Lerning dude learning. Rep. Peace:blsmoke:

CFL's are definitely better than tubes...they're just awkward to mount. Check the lumen output/watt ratio. Just one 150watt hps puts out 16,000 lumens ($89.99). Ive heard at least 10,000+ lumens per sqr ft.. So I supplement my HPS with CFL's. Its perfect for 1-2 plants.
