Shout out to my Florida homies...and to RIU...longtime fly-on-the-wall finally decided to post due to this heat...
Florida has had a VERY hot spring, but my outdoor autoflowers are looking great. They are in full flower, 25-30 days to harvest, May 1 germ'd. The temps have been running in the upper 90's for the life of the plants, 101 today. I have to say, they need a lot more TLC, and will not be max height, but the yield and quality should be good. Trichomes started really pumping resin this week. I grow in containers, and usually bury them in the ground to keep the roots/container cool. I did not do that this year and I am really paying for it in the height of the plants. KEEP THE ROOTS COOL! I didn't do this and they were shocked. Live and learn...will be digging holes tonight.
To answer a question posed 100 pages ago, most strains will do well in Fla; we sit on the Tropic of Cancer, the outdoor growers dream. Stick with outdoor strains that are heat and mold resistant if you are new to outdoor mj growing in this heat. If it's bred for it, you can find it in the descriptions of seed stains from online seed banks. I have been growing here for years and have successfully grown a lot of strains. Indicas will finish in Sept-Oct and Sativas will finish Nov-Dec with 12-14 weeks for flowering. Worth it though for mind bending sativa divas...but north of O-town watch out for frost in December. Purple buds do great too with the cool nights in the fall.
I am running autoflowers for the first time this year, and being able to crop in July ROCKS! Easy to stealth grow since the po-po and thieves are not looking. I'll let you know how the grow turns out. Paradise Pandora (2-3' tall, thin, branchy); Buddha Seeds Red Dwarf (14"+ tall, 14" wide SHRUB), Short Stuff Blue Himalaya (10" single cola, oooozing resin). I'll post grow and smoke reports.
Peace and good harvest!
