I just let my water sit for a few days with the top off, it's supposed to allow the chlorine to bleed off. I then add whatever and then ph the water and adjust to 6.5 or there about.
I had done this with my fish tank water in Pinellas county for years, then in 2006 they switched from chlorine to Chloramine (a compound of amonia and chlorine.) Chloramine doesn't evaporate as chlorine does and I ended up killing $1500 worth of exotic fish because they made this change and didn't send out any notices. According to the county no notice was sent because Chloramine has been shown in one study to have 'no ill effects on humans.' Aparently they didn't think about other forms of life like fish, plants, or other pets. (I never did get re-imbursment for my fish from that county.)

Since then I've never trusted just evaporation as a means of 'purifying' the water enough for fish or plants. Aparently (rolling eyes) we humans seem to be more resiliant to that kind of chemical adulteration. I found out that since I moved my new county uses Chloramine as well. According to several studies a 3 stage carbon fliter will remove most the Chloramine and still leave a few trace elements that are good for the plants.

I wasn't the only one who had acquarium problems due to the change. I had a friend who lost over $4000 of exotic pond fish the same week my acquarium went to hell.

At this point I'm using Cal-Mag in my existing RO water to bring my plants back to vibrance, but will be switching to carbon filtered water in about a week and a half. I went to the fish store and purchased a chloramine detection kit and will test my filtered water for it tomorrow. If there's any left I'll add an under the sink three stage carbon filter (about $45) to get out what's left.

Between my fish and these plants I"ve learned MUCH more about water than I ever cared to know before. We do some stupid shit to water as a nation to make it 'healthy' for us. Yet for some reason my unfiltered water still tastes and smells like underpants because of the copious ammounts of sulfer in it.

I for one find it very disturbing that to remove bacteria our drinking water has been loaded with Carcinogens (chlorine) and then replaced with Chloramine which has effects that are still unkown on humans and we're expected to 'live well' and 'end obesity' while our governments slowly kills us with chemicals in our food, water, and air.

At the local hydro shop they have a sweet mover that holds 2 reflectors with all the works and moves across the room. When he was showing someone else it I just stared and was like damn that would be fucking sweet right there. Could grow a shiit load of weed with less light with one of those.
I do not like the idea of moving the light away from plants...

That is why I chose the aircooled reflectors... cause I have no heat issues with the light sright in their face...

I like INTENSITY...

Light movers are no for me...

I'll get another light to cover an area if I need to ...

I am not interested in reducing the light from any of my plants...

But thanks for the suggestion...

oh yeah gypsy, you have no problems with algae or shiit with your res and flood tray exposed to the light? I love that set-up, 1 plant per system, if you can get a lb of each plant I'd love it even more. I guess it depends on strain...what you growing??
It's Bagseed...

And these systems are brand new .. I just set them up...

Light proofing of the trays is on the way...

But I do use h2o2, which will not allow growies...;-)

Gypsy, looking at your setup, do you have six inch flanges on your reflector and the one end reduced to four inch? Secondly, where does that duct end and what do you have connected to the duct?

Good luck with your trees.
That is an 8" flange... reduced to 6"...

The duct goes up into the attic where there is a fan and filter...

This is just temporary...

answering it for em here :) but it looks to me thats it the Easy Cool 8 from htg http://htgsupply.com/products.asp?categoryID=5 . So its 8 inches down to 6 inches.

I'm jealous because I want that exact reflector.
It is an Easy cool 8... you are correct... and it IS a nice hood...

Hey RetiredToker, get a RO system man, you wont have to worry about all the crap in your water. http://www.purewaterclub.com/ I got my RO system from here, the portable one which I don't see available anymore, but trust me I've bought 3 systems from this site all of them work just fine and for cheap as shiit.

I haven't seen a piece of hash in over twenty years, except in pictures. Twenty more years, that's all I'm asking for in life, that would put me at seventy six in 2029. I have ten more years of working...and twenty of growing, should the weed gods be willing. I figure after three years, maybe less, I hope to be making my own. RIU is a font, a cornucopia of info. At fifty six, not much impresses me any longer, RIU is one of the few places on the web where people share freely. I wish I had found out about growing twenty years ago when I arrived in Florida, I would be smoking my own hashish right now.

Finally, just checked my email and I have a tracking number for my order from htg I placed last wednesday. They're throwing in a free metal halide for my inconvenience, apology accepted. I still can't get over the fact I have been living in florida or is it flori-duh in my case, for close to twenty one years now and all this time I could have had the sun in my back bedroom. I can hardly wait to get my setup, up and going, or should I say growing?

Fellow floridians,
Have any of you seen this article.
It was in a russian news paper.

American Capitalism…Gone with a Whimper

The irony of this article appearing in the English edition of Pravda (Russian State Newspaper) defies description.

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless “sheeple”, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was “dumbed down” through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather than the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas than the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a Burger King burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more than Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more than happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America .

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been record setting, not just in America 's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more than another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, losses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more than ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the sheer volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more than a whimper to their masters.

Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motors) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantor of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less than two months ago, warned Obama and UK 's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism. It only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.

The proud American will go down into his slavery without a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

My dude don't take this the wrong way, but your response to his post graphically illustrates a portion of what the article is saying about us. As somewhat of a student of history I implore you to first reread the article and then pick up some books on the history of Russia before communism and then get some on the effects communism has had on Russia. Also study our american history. I'm not tryin to clown you yo, but if you are interested in the subject by all means seek out the truth. History does not lie and it does repeat itself if we refuse to learn from it.

MM,

You and I couldn't agree more on this subject. Self reliance, self stability, self advancement are ALL gone. We've already become a society of slaves. We willing pay 20% or more of our income to a federal government that restricts our freedoms on a whim, we work for money men who do nothing but gamble the stock market and play golf while we actually 'earn' them their money, and we willing accept ever increasing prices in products despite the fact that the increases match neither inflation nor supply and demand. Throw that in with the fact that the majority of people are paying money on their money (debt) and will never live in the positive sums of money. You have people who are slaves to 1. government taxation and legislation, 2. CEO's, Corporate Presidents, and investors, and finally 3. to credit companies.

We have all become slaves to these institutions with no way out. The economic strife that is happening is a direct result of the fact that no slave can serve more than one master and now the masters are fighting for control of the slaves.
