what happens if you flower a little too long to alow the buds around the light to be done versus the buds right under the light????

You can wait till the overall buds look good, maybe the side buds are a little more cloudy then the main buds but try and pick it before the top buds are overdone. You can also just harvest the top few buds and let the smaller buds on the side shoots keep growing for a few days with no ill effects. Its called sequential harvesting or something. Just harvest the colas and let the rest grow for another few days.
