flowering/lighting problem

Hi ...
ive been reading threads on this forum for maybe a year, but i've never had the need to ask anything so i've never registered...
but now i have a problem... didn't quite know where to post this, but im a newbie to this forum and im certainly no gardener yet either:)

aaaaanyways.... i've been reading how people put their plants in 24-36 hours darkness to induce flowering right.... and sometimes people put their plants in 24-48 days darkness at the end of flowering, to ripen the buds or something...

my question is.... what if someone were to come on a surprise visit to your place, with a nasty intention of sleeping over and making your life miserable for a day or two, and you don't have anywhere to stash your plants.... can you put your plants in a box for a day or two, like a 48 hour darkness period in the middle of flowering... 25-26 days or something....

will this stress the plants? what is the worst thing that could happen?

thanx in advance

damn, seriously?
i mean, i would think the plants would be more vulnerable to confusing their sexes in the pre-flowering stage than 26 days into flowering? but what do i know....

how often do the 24-36 hour dark period before flowering lead to plants turning into hermies?

and what about stunted growth? will such a darkperiod affect the production of more flowers, and just shorten the whole flowering cycle?

hmmm... crisis on my hands here, i really don't need alot of seeds :)

lol tell the people to FUCK OFF!!!! just kidding. put them at a trusted friends house just in a closet or something that isnt used. If you put it in a cardboard box you need to open it up once in a while so it can breath, however that must be done in total darkness. The worst that can happen is death if there is not enuff air. If you got put in a carboard box with no holes you would die too.

haha yeah:) id probably get claustropobic too:) i have this storage room in the basement, but theres no electricity there, therefore no light.. but air is no problem, i can easily sneak down and air them out once in a while... but will i end up with a lot of seeds or popcorn buds?

ya if u keep the light off for a long period of time its better than keeping it on for a long period of time during flowering.

I think you'll be ok, just don't fuck it up again:mrgreen:....but you asked for a worst case scenario.

When you put your plants into the dark period at the beginning of bloom, that's different because they haven't made the transition from the veg stage to bloom, yet. It basically tricks them into thinking the growing season is over, and then they panic and try to mature as fast as possible(go into bloom). It's the same thing that happens when you switch your lights from 18/6-24/0, directly to 12/12. Once the plant goes into that 'rush' to mature, it wants to produce seeds so that life will continue the next growing season, but we don't let them get pollinated, fighting the role of mother nature. Now if you throw them into complete darkness for 2-3 days, at 3 1/2 weeks into the bloom stage, they COULD think they are dying, and 'herm out' in a last ditch effort to pollinate themselves and live on for another season. Since you are that far into bloom, the odds are in your favor that they will be fine, but there's always the possibility of hermies. So, it's best to keep an eye on them, just in case. :)
