i have a plant outdoors growing in an old stump doing really good
in a couple weeks the roots wont be able to grow anymore and i dont want to replant or bring it inside

how could i restrict the amount of sunlight that gets to the plant so that it will flower?

Put a large box over it, or a dark tent, large black bag, but the plant is going to get much larger when you start flowering, so if you need it to stay small do some lst on the plant and tie her down, and start flowering now.

The rule of the thumb is to start to flower when your plant gets to half the height that you want because it will at least double in height. In order to make your plant grow horizontally with out using the Sea of Green method you need to train your plant. With a mixture of pruning and tie branches down, this will force the growth to start to grow horizontally instead of vertically. You can cover the stump with a light tight curtin or cloth, when you want to see your babies at night make sure to only use a green light and nothing stronger than moon light. When it comes time to flower their 12 hours of dark MUST NOT be interrupted what so ever by light. Hope this helps a little, good luck with your grow keep us updated! :)
