Flowering two different plants

I have two plants growing in my closet that are about 3 feet tall. I switched the lights to 12/12 about a month ago and one plant is flowering fine but the other is not. I was getting ready to throw the other one out because I thought it was male, but today I finally see a few little pistols growing. Why is it that one plant already has decent sized buds and this one is just now starting to show signs of flowering? Is this normal?

OK Nevermind. I didn't know that sativa takes longer to flower than indica. And I do indeed have one of each. You think someone would have known that... anyways I took some pictures.
