wow, ya, i thought he was indoors., i was gonna say i know its flowering when i switch to 12/12, but outdoor i couldnt tell u. i would assume it would not start flowering until august, or sept.

So, usually, if everything is perfect in the grow room it takes about 8-9 weeks to finish after seeing first signs of sex? If the temp is at 85 degrees, would it slow/stop growth at all? What could make the plant turn hermie, if only growing one plant?

No, not true. Most Indica plants have shorter 60-80 day flowering periods, while the longer lived Sativa plants might need as much as 120 days of flowering or more. Flowering is not the first sign of sex, it is the day you put the light sched to 12/ on 12 off.
85F is a bit high for optimum growth, but it will still grow as long as other factors are good.

Many things can turn a plant hermie, the worst being long periods of light/dark interruption. say the lights come on for 2 hours during the middle of 12 off, and do this for multiple days. Other forms of stress can also turn a plant hermie, but probably the main reason is because the plants genetics are just that way. Some plants are just born that way, not much you can do. If you truly want a hermie free plant nothing is better than a clone from known good stock.

some strains can take up 2 ten weeks, but most that i've seen have been 8, and mine that i just harvested, was ready in 8.

I would not consider a plant that is showing "PreFlowers" to be in flowering stage. If you have switched your plant to 12/12 then that is the beginning of flowering, whatever the size was when you start the switch over, then figure at least double that height when its done with the stretch. I think Luda kinda misunderstood what you were really asking, as did I the first few times I read it.

surely flowering starts when the first flowers appear and not as soon as the lights are switched to 12/12.
how can a plant be flowering with no flowers just because you have switched to 12/12(it cant be) :-?.
(no flowers= not flowering regardless of photoperiod).

the red writing makes no sense at all.

The Flowering Phase of the Marijuana Plant

Once the plant has reached 12" height, or the height of your choice, it is time to start the flowering phase. The plant will begin to preflower, then it will fully flower.

The 24/0 light cycle is changed at this time. This can be changed to a straight 12/12 cycle, or it can be set at 14/10 and slowly adjusted until the 12/12 cycle is reached. Some growers will take the light steadily back to a 10/14 schedule, or even as far back as an 8/16. This depends on each grower`s preference.

Preflowering usually begins in the 4th week of vegetation. Preflowering can only be detected by magnification. At the 4th node down the stem, you should be able to see the tiny pear - shaped node which identifies the female, along with the two tiny pistils. Occasionally the pistils will not develop for several days into pre - flowering. Make sure you know whether your plant is male or female before you decide to pull it.

Full flowering begins 1 to 2 weeks after changing the light schedule. In a matter of days, most or all of the nodes on the marijuana plant will be covered in white pistils. These will begin to develop into flowers, which will reach their maturity in 6 to 8 weeks` time.

The buds will also develop at these same nodes. They will be covered with white crystals, and near maturity the trichomes may be seen. These start out as clear and white and turn amber or darker as the tiny white pistils turn red or dark. When you see these changes beginning to occur, pay close attention to your plant, because harvest time is near.

The buds may be harvested when the trichomes or white, or you may wait until they darken. Often some buds will be ready while the trichomes in others are still developing the right colors. If this should happen, if you can, then cut the ripened buds and leave the rest to develop for a week or two longer.
This will ensure a maximum yield.

Yo, I appreciate the quick response! I have a grow going right now with one plant that has just sexed into a female about 5 days ago. I have been cutting fan leaves off all the way to the stalk during the first month of the grow as an experiment to keep the plant from being shaded. I am surprised it didn't shock it into becoming male or hermie... Check it out and tell me what you think! There are many pictures of the plant and I am going to continue to post till it's harvested!

Any information available is given +REP.

It is in the cfl growing section titled,

"an estabilished member told me my grow was very interesting".

Specifically, LUDA, I really want some info from you on my grow. Hit the page up!

CANNABIS FLOWERING PERIOD
The the plant will be induced to fruit or flower with dark cycles of 11-13 hours that simulate the oncoming winter in the fall as the days grow shorter. As a consequence, it works out well indoors to have two separate areas; one that is used for the initial vegetative state and one that is used for flowering and fruiting. There is no other requirement other than to keep the dark cycle for flowering very dark with no light interruptions, as this can stall flowering by days or weeks.
Once a plant is big enough to mature (12" or over), dark periods are required for most plants to flower and bear fruit. This will require putting the lamp on a timer, to create regular and strict dark periods of uninterrupted light. In the greenhouse, the same effect can be created in the Summer (long days) by covering it with a blanket to make longer night periods. A strict schedule of covering the plants at 8pm and uncovering them at 8am for 2 weeks will start your plants to flowering. After the first 2 weeks, the schedule can be relaxed a little, but it will still be necessary to continue this routine for the plants to completely flower without reverting back to vegatative growth.
