Flowering

So I've seen many things about flipping lights. When there this tall or have that many nodes, but no ones answers are ever close to the same as the next person, so I ask what are some tell tell signs it's time to flower,
What will happen if you flip to early ?

Ps I know they stretch anywhere from double to triple there size

you're on a stoner web site and you want continuity? you can flip whenever you want, nothing will happen if you flip early. go for it.

Okay cool thanks for the answer ,sorry for a Newb question but that's why I posted on newb central

height of space dictates for me. IE I have 7 foot top minus about 1 foot for hood =6 foot so if plants are 2 foot at flip and they go the whole triple in stretch thats 6 foot.
but as Dannyboy said you can flip whenever. alot of floks go 12/12 from seed

Just realize, once you flip, they're flipped: No going back once they start flowering, so be sure they're the size you want etc before 12/12.

My plants/clones, which go into my flower tent as soon as they are rooted (14-18 days), whispered in my ear that there is no such thing as flipping lights too early

Yields will be smaller the sooner you flip, but that's it. Also, if you want to reduce stretch, use an MH bulb for the first two weeks of flower before going to HPS. It helps to a pretty decent degree keeping the inter-nodes tighter for the first 14-or-so days.

Most strains will stretch from 2-to-3 times their height within the first 21-24 days they are in flower (if you go straight to HPS). Few people will argue with that. So if you have 3' of clear space and your plant is now 1', I'd flip immediately (unless you are training, which is another ball of wax).

I don't see a reson I move away from 12 12, I've got 2 plants that have veged for bout month and a half, and a bunch more that have vegged for 1 month. There all about 9-11 in
