hi there

i'm new here and ten years ago i have grown a lot of weed for somebody else on earth and rockwool and always 6 or 600w hps.
everytime i the plants anywhere i thinked about it how is was erlier and how great it was .to see so pretty sexy plant grow every day .
and i have looked on my own dutch forums but there is not a lot on cfl

ok but now my question because i want to grow a cabine with cfl for fun .
so i have the great feeling of growing it .

are the buds always fluffy ? or can the be big and fat
and in the netherlands the measurement is 1gram /1watt if you have grown it perfect but that is on hps
so another question is is there anybody that knows what you can expect from cfl per watt .
greetings from the Netherlands

I read somewhere that newer bulbs with better light intencity will grow tighter buds. Dunno bout cfl's tho, hid all the way.
Good luck and happy growing.

metal halide for veg high powerd sodium for flower. HID stands for high intensive discharge or something like that.

No they arent fluffy, fluffy buds are from bad growers. I use 4-42w cfls in a 24inx18inx32in. My buds are rock hard. Its all in how you utilize the light for covering the plant.

Ok maybe my misstake they are not fluffy , they were rock hard but what i mean .
i'm 3 weeks in flowering with hps and the flowers are bigger then cfl grow at the end.and i had 2X125w 2700k and later on i have put on 1 85w 2700k
for growing it is ok but blooming it is good enough for own smoking .
but not for weight .

yeah i have some bagseed babies in veg right now its under two 4'(48") fixtures with 4 full spectrum bulbs
they really are doing good without too much work, you can even let them touch the bulb and they wont burn
but im skeptical on how big i could let these girls get on flouros alone thats why im hoping the company that sold me a defective 600w hps ballast will take care of things for me. especially since i used diferent kinds of bagseed to spice things up a bit, which could lead to me having different size plants

i have seen buds from sloppy flouro grows and most are stringy or fluffy but thats only because they werent done right
if you grew entirely under flouros and kept the plants fairly short you could have great rock hard tops with just as much resin on them as a HID your just gonna have to be more patient and understanding of the plants and not expect to get like 10 lbs of bud lol
flouros are much more energy effecient too (its not like you need to air cool flouros either)

you need to invest in a copy of "Buds For Less" Grow 8oz. of bud for less than $100. Fluffy buds are from bad growers, cfls should be as close a possible without burning buds, a little leaf burn is tolerable.
Plants grown above 24 in tall will produce alot of fluffy bud because CFL's have a max light range for growing of about 20 in. keeping plants short, using the correct spectrum, and proper light positioning can give you CFL grows that rival HID.

-P.S. The Buds For Less showcases a Indica strain known as Mango and 2 clones from a Med. Strain. 1 plant from seed and 2 clones, all three no taller than 2 ft, had a total yeild of 8 oz. using Miracal-Gro Time Release Soil and 8 - 42watt (2700k) CFL's. Some HID growers WISH they had that kind of yield.

i have a copy of that book .
and i also had the bulbs close as possible
first grow was directly from seed on 12/12 and that was killingfields and durban-shack and with a little bending .
second grow were cuttings from the best killingfields i had and topped and fimmed and had also had blue dynamite seedling.
i had nice hard buds but is nothing to compare with what i have now and they are now only 3 weeks in flowering stage .
and in that book they used 8 x42 watt(336w) and go around the whole plants. I believe that can be the problem .
But 2 envirolites 2x125w from 2700k gives only the top enough light . i also have a light meter and if i held it 4 inches from the lamps.
Then there was a real difference in lumen . So a inch of difference from the lamp to plants doesn´t makes much of difference .
but the people who says that cfl works are correct , but it is more for own smoke or you must put so much lamps in it.
i have replaced my 2x125w envirolite for one 250w hps and i see a big difference .
but that my idea.
and by this i say envirolite works but with the same amount of wattage hps works better .
and for the idea i put on a picture of my small grow from envirolite.
greetings for now

Im using 4 cfl's above and 2 t8 for side lighting. It's my first grow and I've already ordered my 600w hps/mh system. What I'm saying is in my ONE experience cfl's ROCKED in veg growth. The plants didn't have to stretch to get light, and because of the low heat emission I was able to keep them close all the way through veg. I will say that my lower growth suffered a little. But 1/3 of the bottom should be chopped off anyway before going into flower. bottom line I definitely recommend CFL lighting to the broke beginner. It's a great way to start. And to learn. Then you can read learn more and upgrade,
