Flushing causes plants to lose weight and when you flush only the leaves are affected. People don't usually smoke leaves.

EDIT: By "lose weight" I mean you are losing out on weight by restricting growth. Nutes are a limiting factor and starving organisms don't grow.

so are you saying it is bad ? how does it make the plant loose weight. alot of pepole say flushing makes the smoke not as harsh is this true? i am growing blueberry thanks for your replys

The 'plants losing weight' comment is something I've never heard before. New one on me. I'm not sure of the mechanism by which this could happen.

I've always found flushing to be unnecessary. Makes no difference to the smoking characters.

i would disagree. i think flushing is very important for the taste of your bud, especially with hydro. it forces the nutes in your leaves and stems to go to your buds making them more crystally and tastier. if you have ever smoked weed that tastes sort of bitter and like chemicals more than it tastes like good quality herb, its because the grower didnt flush. flushing is good for taste and doesnt effect weight.

Flushing is done to get the nutrients out of the plant. Probably more important if you are using chemical nutes vs. organic nutes. I dunno if it really matters but I flushed mine.

So, you claim an increase in resin after flushing? Not buying it, sorry.

I don't flush. Why don't my buds taste "sort of bitter and like chemicals"?

FG, as a matter of fact, I actually work very hard to keep all magic out of my op. If I can't explain it, I don't do it.

I'm ambivalent about flushing for the most part. I've done it and never found any difference. I even did the closest I could to a double-blind comparison, giving some flushed & non-flushed buds to a half-dozen mates in bags labelled 'a' & 'b'. No one could tell any difference.

Every once in a while, I've got spare tray space which allows me to flower a bit longer than 8 wks. If I were to build flushing into my sked beginning with wk6 as per the usual suggestion, they would start to show some deficiencies after wk 8.

feh... flushing is certainly not a necessity, but I can't really see any general harm in doing it.

I had to chop early and did not flush. I have great tasting smoke and I was expecting harsh nasty ass chemically smoke like everyone says.

I run my system at 5.8 +/- 0.1. 5.2 is waaay too low.

but what about water?
If you're going to flush, I'd keep the pH @ 5.8.

However, Canna, who do suggest flushing on their nutrient package labelling, state that the pH during flushing isn't critical.

I think the brand of nutrients also have something to do with it as well. I used to grow with General Hydro's cheap stuff, and I would get pot that tasted somewhat like "chemicals" if I didn't flush. I use Flora Nova now which is a nice mixture of organic and chemical fertilizers. If I don't flush now, I can barely tell the difference.

If the plant isn't fert burned, it won't have any chemical taste, doesn't matter what brand the nutes are.

Nutes is nutes. There's very little difference between nutrients. The main difference between brands is that larger makers will make larger batches at a time, reducing the variability between jugs of the stuff, as opposed to nutes mixed up by your local hydro shop in their back room. Despite potential variabilities from small batch nute makers, I've seen 'house brand' hydro shop nutes grow perfectly fine plants.

However, the plant's requirements are the plant's requirements, so what's in any complete nutrient will not be terribly different from maker to maker.

why are you jumping my thread girl ? this is pretty confusing some say yes some say no. well as long as it doesn't hurt the potency and since i have already started to flush i will just keep flushing
