Flushing question, as in when do you tell the optimum time?

Ok, So I'm finishing up my room hopefully around tue, and I've been playing with these bag seeds over the last two weeks to get an idea on my germination rate (have 3 different groups, mine and two friends).
I know I'm far off, but I just started thinking today about system flushing and was wondering how important it was and when? I've read a week before you harvest, start flushing with clean water with no nutes, but since I've never harvested, is this going to be a trial by error learning curve?
I'm doing a two 56 gallon storage bins DWC setup in a 3'x3' and will be using JR Peter's hydroponic nutes, the 5-12-26 and 15-0-0 combo with the 1-3-2 bloom boost. If any of that info is pertinent.
Thanks for any info ya'll,
Alex

Alex: with a magnifying glass or a pocket microscope, when you see most of your trikes have changed color from clear to brown or red, I'd say it's time. My friends flush then. I wish there was an easier way, but from what you ask, I get the impression you might be new to this so I’d suggest you RTFB and refer to the following resources:
1. Read: SeeMoreBud’s, “MARIJUANA BUDS FOR LESS- GROW 8 OZ. OF BUDS FOR LESS THAN $100.” It’s a must for dirt gardeners using CFL’s.
2. You’ll also want to read: Mc McCarthy’s, “GROWING MARIJUANA.” It’s another must for dirt gardeners.
3. Read: Jorge Cervantes’s, “MARIJUANA HORTICULTURE THE INDOOR/ OUTDOOR MEDICAL GROWER’S BIBLE.” It’s great for dirt and hydro.
4. Read: Ed Rosenthal’s, “MARIJUANA GROWER’S HANDBOOK.”
5. “THE CANNABIS GROW BIBLE- SECOND EDITION,” written by Greg Green, is a match, if not better than, the ones listed above.
6. You should also subscribe to, “HIGH TIMES,” magazine. Each issue is full of useful information and excellent photography.
7. You might also want to subscribe to www.gardenandgreenhouse.net. It’s free and they offer a monthly news letter that always has a lot of good information, especially for newbies.
8. A lot of local hydroponics stores offer free weekend gardening classes. Admittedly they offer these classes as a means of boosting sales but they present some good information and they’re frequently taught by experienced gardeners.
All these resources are very well written, well illustrated and packed with information that will answer most of your questions before you know to ask them. Doing your homework before you grow by consulting these resources will save you and your plants a lot of stress. These forums are great but often they’re the blind leading the blind and when you do get it from a knowledgeable source they frequently can’t get the information you need to you in a timely fashion. I sincerely hope this helps. HSA

Thanks HSA, that's the answer I was looking for. I do have Rosenthal's book, which is great, but he doesn't go deep into hydro. Or maybe I missed it about flushing, might reread it front to back again. As far as a hydro store, lol...not happening around here, although I'm seriously considering opening one myself down the road when I get a bit more experience under my belt.

I've researched flushing a lot and its back and forth. You don't need to do it and you don't need to keep them in the dark for three days before harvest that just wastes energy that could be going to the plant. I have flushed and not flushed and couldn't tell a difference.

MD, what kind of nutes do you use? Do you think it may make a difference with flushing or not depending on the type and concentration, as far as taste goes anyway?

i use the lucas system, flora bloom and flora micro. also h202 aka hydrogen peroxide 10% for keeping the res clean and the roots healthy and when it depletes it turns into oxygen, liquid koolbloom for flowering and dry koolbloom for the last week of flowering, calmag plus cause i use ro water, and subculture b for the roots since im running hydro. the taste like i said is not imo different than flushing or not flushing the bcd diesel smelled like fuel like its suppose to and had a smooth woodsy taste to it. aka48 had a citrus smell and a fruit taste to it, blz bud had so many different taste going on its hard to describe, fruity, woodsy, floral, etc,. you do what works for you try one run with flushing and one with out and see what you think. Most important cure your bud for at least a month to get that nice smell and smooth taste, that doesn't mean you can't smoke it in the mean time though.

Thanks man. Cool. I've read about using H202 and it being good for antiseptic purposes and adding some oxy when it breaks down. Does it affect your ph heading down very much at that concentrate?

I think at first it gives a false ph reading but after a couple of minutes recheck and it will be down to where you want it!

Hey MDJENKS!

I have been wanting to hear from someone using H2O2. Have you consodered using the food grade 30% stuff with no additives? I went through a program of actually drinking the stuff (way watered down of course) and it was awesome. Been wondering how it would help the plant roots with O2. I am in my 7th week of flower and was thinking to add a little in my last nute watering. Do you just give your plants pure water and Brix or molasses the final week before harvest?
