Flushing setup what do you think?

Hey guys just wanted to show off my flushing setup I have a friend that is way more advanced than I am and he started the idea I just took it to the next level. Hoping I can pay it forward and give ideas to those in need. I have a sump pump in the bottom attached to a garden hose 3 minutes and the water is gone. Great for tight spaces and unfinished areas.

What do I think? I think flushing, especially in soil, is counter productive. It stresses the plant and lowers yield.

By flushing, do you mean running gallons of plain water through your soil?
Why not just water normally with plain water?

Flushing soil is really a bad idea, unless you have been over feeding.
Why rinse away all those microbes that you plant loves?

I can see this as being useful for a hydro setup. I think its important to flush hydro setups at least once every two weeks or so just to take care of excess salt, which you can actually see on the hydroton. Actually the guy at the grow store told me he likes to flush it every weekend so that he has nutrients for 5 days and then just plain water for two. Either way I always flush like crazy, maybe once every 2-3 days, for the last two weeks before harvesting.

Common man I only flush a week before harvest get those salts out at least that's what I was told.

green chemistry.. thats funny that you chose that as your name and yet, you often choose to rapidly change the ionic concentration gradient between your plants and its medium (water in this case).

If the guy at the hydro store is telling you to run nutrients for 5 days and plain tap for 2 days.. then switch back again.. I would go to a new hydro store as that IS actually stressful to the plant.

There are very little "excess salts" in a well run hydro set up, but you can occasionally remove a little salts out of the flood and drain systems by flushing. As stated above, unless your over feeding, flushing is not really required and it indeed can be stressful on the plants. Is it going to hurt the plants..no. Is it going to help them? no.

The key to high quality green is slow and steady. Nice gentle ramp down of nutes in the last 2-3 weeks. No need to do anything ridiculous. The smoothness of smoke is mostly in the drying anyways.

I agree that it can be stressful to the plants, but all of my plants have no problem after being flushed especially when the water is properly pH'd even though I do use plain tap water that I leave sit for at least 24 hours.

The salts that do build up from my nutrients are slightly alkaline so if I don't flush them out the pH levels tend to rise past the ideal range.

Also like you said it's important to "ramp down" the nutrients towards the end of flowering but it's also key to build up the nutrient levels and then slowly switch from veg to bloom nutrients.

The way I see flushing is that it keeps my nutrient levels true. When I flush I'm certain that I have no excess nutrients in the reservoir and I will know the exact concentrations of nutrients.

To each their own and the best part about all of this is that there is no right or wrong and at the end of the day we'll all be stoned.

this is the only thing i flush :)

ppl should concentrate on the harvest & curing methods instead of "flushing" techniques~

If you hang your plants upside down when you flush them, you will get much higher when they are finally harvested.

I know this is true because I saw it on youtube, and only really really smart people make youtube videos.

Fact: If you feed properly, there is no need for flushing.

So are you saying if i run a flood and drain system i should not be flushing every two weeks? I am not new to this but i have always been curious about the flushing. Any input would be great. Thanks

Every two weeks..no. Maybe once towards the end. A flood table with hydroton will hold around 200-300 ppm of nutes. Just flush with water. The flushing agents do very little to help flushing. Like others said, just ramp it down allot towards the end. I top out around 1400 ppm in week 6. Then I go down to about 900 in 7 and never above 4 in week 8. Maybe I'll run something really week after I harvest the tops. But I typically just keep adding plain water to top off and keep it low.

It's really about the drying. Hit them hard with 40% humidity for about 2 days, then back off to about 50-60 for another two three. One day without dehu to let them equalize, then keep at 60% until fully dry.

They hold more water in the center than you think they will. Or at least mine do, but I do grow extremely dense buds (phosphoload)

Cheers

I can't see how flushing 7 days before cutting could do anything to harm a plant.

I can see how flushing 2-3 weeks prior to cutting could drastically harm a plant, but not the very last week.

Flushing does not improve flavor or smell, so what is the point, besides stressing your plant?
Plants need nutrients to survive. If you flush all the nutes out your are hurting the plant. I see no reason to hurt your plant for 7 days before picking.
Flushing soil is much worse than flushing hydro/coco.

I AGREE with u m8 i never ever poor gallons of water through my girls,2 weeks b4 harvest i just stop the feed an give them plain tap water with a p.h of between 5.8-6.5,i only ever p.h plain water'when i add my feed(DUTCH PRO) that puts the p.h of my tap water to 5.9-6.8 depending on how much feed is in there,an i have never ever had any problems with that rota
