I took a week course from orvis flyfishing school in colorado.

It's expensive, but i'll have that knowledge for life.

It's a great hobby

Canceled,

If you're interested in messing around with fly-fishing, then get ready to spend some money! lol I've been fly-fishing for 10 years and love it way more than any other style of fishing. For me, being on a river, with water flowing past, and the fish and wildlife, is really relaxing.

What you're fishing for will dictate what you buy; but for panfish, and trout I suggest a St. Croix 4 wt 7 ft rod. I've owned two, and they are a fantastic deal for the buck.

Its like growing man; once you get into it you cant stop. I have vests, waders, lots of rods, I've made my own rods, and what I used to love was tying my own flies. Try it sometime, its hella addicting coming up with you're own patters!

PS Saltwater fly-fishing for bonefish is the most stress i've ever felt. Its intense. I suggest trying it.

I cant wait.
It sounds so fun.
Ive taken a couple fly tying and fly fishing classes just to understand how everything works, and i enjoyed it very much.
I think im probably going to start out with the cheapest setup i can find, before spending $100-$300 on a pole and reel.

Hey IBC! hows it going?
My hubby is very much into fishing right now and I bought him a fishing rod this year which he picked out and loves it.
He would like to try fly fishing also.
I got him a few fishing books. One them is 500 different lures and it has a pic of each one of them and tells what they are used for and how deep they are made to go.

I LOVE the pictures of the lures. They are so darned cute!:clap: I can't wait to give him his other gifts.:blsmoke::peace:

Does anyone here flyfish?
Im pretty sure im gonna get a flyfishing setup for christmas(even if i have to buy it myself).

If so, Would ya like to give a beginner a few tips?
:peace:

been fly fishing for years , what do you want to know are you going to be casting on a river bank or in a float tube on a lake , on river bank for steelhead and salmon i would use a 7wt to 9wt rod for trolling in a v boat or float tube or even a regular boat 4wt to 7wt rod the less wt of a rod means its more flexible .it all depends on the fish you want to catch and how. im basically disabled i have a inflatable v boat with an adjustable air seat for my back only my knees in water and i troll the lakes for cutt throat , rainbow bows i use a 3 wt dryline and a 4 wt sinking line for them if any questions pm me.Peace

+1 about the St. Croix thing. Most of my rods are St Croix, fly rods or not. Most have a 5 year warranty. And now you can buy them right at major stores. Well atleast DICKS that I know of
