It's become impossible for me to ignore the fact that our commercially produced food has steadily declined in quality during my lifetime. Indeed linked to many health problems, the additives, hormones and pesticides used in commercial food production are undoubtedly unhealthy and may in fact disproportionately affect women.

That said, I've started eating grass fed beef and natural cheeses. Now I can't bear the taste of non organic grass fed beef.

I don't consume vegetables, but my wife says it's night and day. The organic stuff sans pesticides is far better.

Yes, it's not cheap, but eating better will do more for long term health than a savings account or some extra toys.

Just wanted to share this, from the perspective of those that used to say vegan or organic is silly. Lol and vegan cookies rock!

Yes, fuck even home grown veggies with non organic ferts taste 10X better than store bought.

Would try organic/grass fed beef but that shit is expensive. I find the price increase kinda hard to justify and it seems really like a rip off.

Used to be my thoughts but fuck the quality is so much better... I have a lot of "shitty beef" in the freezer gonna spoil because it's gross to me now.

And the cheese, well swiss that's not bitter. Cheeses that melt really well and without beads of grease lol. Can't begin to describe the quality difference.

I guess I didn't know what real food tasted like. No going back, I took the red pill. Lol

I pig out veggies in asian food I don't eat rice ...UGH!!! ene the thought pukes me! but veggies in asian food with the sauce is fun too with a toke! ..lol

One of my issues is also that I used to work in a butcher shop that processed home/farm raised animals and a lot of the grass fed beef that came in looked like straight up lizards when they were hanging in the cooler i..e not fat/marbleing and were a pale, hasty looking color. Hard sell when you see that side of it...

I always laugh to myself walking down the aisles and seeing the labels/reading the names of a lot of the meat and dairy packaging. They all try and put 'Farm' in their names or put pictures of farms/fields/sunshine on their packaging. Truth is a lot of those products come from factories...not farms. They try to portray a healthy and sustainable image but their practices are harmful to the environment and cruel in many cases.

Snaps! Long time, good to see you. I grow my veggies when season allows and buy meat from a local custom butcher who deals with some local ranchers. All within a 15-20 mi radius. Free range chicken, pigs and beef. Grass fed but as well can get also grass fed grain finished beef. Wonderful....yeah the price is high but I rationalize that I don't need to( and can't) eat as much as I did as a young man, thus it works out well lol

How big is that ?
The moose in the pic was just a 4 year old but we figured he was in the 900 lb ish range conservatively.
Next year we got a really mature dude closer to the 1200 mark.View attachment 3216548
A hand is 4 inches. So he was 71inches at the withers, probably around 1100 pounds. Solid animal, we exercised a lot, he was lots of muscle.

I'm 74inches and my eyes were about level with his withers.

So how much of that dude was edible? pound-wise
The smaller bull (44" spread) - around 420 lbs
Last years bull went 56" (antler width) and my partner and I split right at 620 lbs of steak & burger.
I would really like to double up this year on a couple of biguns.
Really takes the protein pressure off, ya know.

I'm 6'2 myself - but I'm sure you're younger & in much better shape.
My fat ass is pushing 195, but can still pack out a Moose.

Is moose more similar in taste to elk or deer?

I'm lucky enough to have friends down the road who have a small beef herd. Luckier still that diy isn't their thing. Any little jobs i do for them gets paid in sirloin. I can't buy beef from the supermarket any more.

As far as veg, with my missus being a vegetarian (and primary cook) most of my meals are based on vegetables. We always buy organic carrots and ground based produce. The taste is 100% better. We're working up to growing our own everything. 90% of shop bought food is utter crap, and 90% of the population have no clue...

If it comes from an animal, or the ground, I'm eating organic. It's all cancer otherwise IMO. Then again Monsanto regulates our Organic Market, so....
