I've seen several autos lately and grew my own Wedding Cake auto. They seem to have a common trait, dryness. I didn't see a lot of trichomes on my plant and the other plants I saw looked dry as well. Don't get me wrong, this didn't appear to affect the quality but I can't use it to make dabs but it smokes clean and is perfect for cooking. So long story short. Do autos generally have less trichome production?FB_IMG_1583584009573.jpg

Look for Mephisto Double Grape, White Crack or Walter White. They get covered in frost.

Honestly I haven't grown an auto that didn't produce a ton of trichs, though some have been less potent than others. Seedsman, Mephisto, and Binary Selections have been the winners so far but I haven't run much else yet as far as autos go. Royal Queen Northern Lights yielded HUGE and had great trich production, tasty smoke, a good buzz with legs... but it went about 16 weeks and didn't look good until the last 3 plus the dried flowers smelled like a fresh cow patty. LSD-25 was nice and beautiful purple but the one I ran yielded like shit. Dutch Passion Auto Duck was about as half-assed a line as I've seen. Been pretty happy with everything else.

Just curious... what lights are you using and how close to the canopy? I've found that when I run my supplemental lights (pink LEDS) too close, the tops directly under them will be drier than the rest of the plant and the leaves in the immediate vicinity will be browning and dry as well.

Just using cheap Chinese LEDs. They were quite sufficient for the 3 photoperiod plants. They had plenty of frost. Just the Wedding Cake is dry even after 5 weeks curing. Has a unique sweet smell. Almost like Juicy Fruit gum. Makes the best gummies. Very nice in homemade soup too. The cannaoil is very light in colour as I only used buds to make it and no leaf.

I just ordered some from fastbuds.... I’m curious if it changes by breeder or strain. I will update once I’m there but just popped seeds today. Pineapple Express west coast og and seedsman strawberry cheesecake.

Why not add Terpinator during flowering which will increase trichome production and also promotes taste and smell

Pretty much strain dependent. I know some ours are ooey-gooey resinous girls when trimming or seed preening.

Here are some close up bud shots of my latest grow and I have been adding Terpinator for just over 2 weeks and the leaves are getting frostier everyday.

Absolutely. Ruderalis genetics are terrible and I have never seen an auto that tests high. Autos seem to top out around 20% where photos can go into the 30's (% THC).
Ruderalis is incorporated for it's auto trait, that's called smart use of genetics. Testing high, and super high THC ? I guess if that's important to you. We were all 16 once I suppose. Cannabis is so much more then simply looking at THC alone when shopping around for a new strain, actually it's the last thing I look at. And to say it absolutely has less trichome production ? How is that even possible to quantify between genetics, Every strain is different, some photo's will have more and some auto's will have more.

To simply say "Ruderalis genetics are terrible" because some photo period plant can hit 30% THC is just kind of silly.
I guess I could say all photo period genetics must be terrible because one strain hit 30% THC and now I get chronic panic attacks.

Truth is cannabis is far behind other cultivars in terms of stabilizing for light neutrality. Literally every other commonly grown fruit or vegetable has been bred for autoflowering traits for centuries. And, no, "ruderalis genetics" don't "top out" at 20%. My Samsquanch OG crushes all the dispensary buds and recreational dealers' shit. They literally beg me to come off some of my personal because it's way better than what they can get. Also, Mephisto strains have lab-tested at 28% (Double Grape) and 27% (White Chem) THC. This isn't 2007. Today's autoflowers are about 5-10% ruderalis on average, having all ruderalis traits EXCEPT autoflowering bred out of the lines.
