i know in this day and age it is so easy to price shop and compare products with just a click and a credit card but i would like to point out many reasons for you to buy (support) your local grow shops. there are so many draw backs fron line ordering. so i will start with the negitives of ordering on line
1. you dont get to check it out in your hands or ask a sells clerk any questions
2. the dreaded shipping cost usually brings the saving right to if you went to the local shop
3 if you have a problem with your product it is so hard to get someone on the phone for support. push 1 for english to be tranfered to a transfer and back to same the guy who couldnt help you to begin with.
4 if you have a problem with it you have to pay to ship it back for them to cover the warrenty witch is always a hassle
5. you have no idea of who you are talking to and what kind of mood he is in and usualy just sucks dealing with them.
so now to the great reasons to buy locally.....
1 the owner is neighbor and you get to build a repore with the staff
2 you actually get to hold the product and ask questions from the knowelgable staff
3 you taxes are kept in the area to support the roads you drive on and the schools your kids go to
4 if you have a problem you take it right to them and they either replace it on the spot or give you a loaner untill yours is fixed
5 it doesnt cost you any shipping to get your product
6 say you buy a nute your not happy with you can bring back the unused portion and they are usually happy to give a full refund to allow to try something that works for
7 if you have a problem with an item under warrenty it doesnt cost you anything to ship back they handle it all
8 they is always in store specials some great deals you would know an on line store had cause they wont tell you about
9 most local stores carry used equipment you can pick up cheap
10 and if there is something that you want and they dont have it in stock they will happily order it for and there is no extra charge for it. so i dont why you would want to wait a week to 110 days for an item you can go pivk up with just a short drive. so i ask everyone to support our local grow stores. i dont think you would like it someone was ordering a job you do on line. we would starve. so please take the time to find you local store and buy away it mihgt be a dollar or 2 more but none the less you have right here and now.
amd i almost forgot if you go to local grow store to sat get a hydrofarm unit and its 10 bucks cheaper on line if you let them know that they might not beat the price but they will knock off a few bucks and still save you shipping....SO PLEASE BUY LOCAL

i agree whole heartedly with your post.. you make several really good points.. i like to shop locally just for the fact that i know that i'm supporting a local business and not just some nameless faceless entity that only wants my money and couldn't give a sh#t about my happiness.
i have built a great raport with my local hydro store owner.. and i have learned that he is not out to just sell me the most expensive piece of kit that he has on his shelves several times..
i only try and order crap online if my local store doesn't have it on stock or can't order it for me, otherwise i try and spend all my money there.

i very rearly ordering anything on line i might by used off craigslist but thats it everything else i have in my grow room has come from local store. they are so helpful and always willing to give you hand if your stuck. the other day my light burnt out and i lost the igniotor on my 1000w hydro farm so he sold me a brand new unit for cost. not just a ballest but the complete set up. hood and buld and then sent my hydrofarm to get fixed. even thought my was a little over warrenty he told them it was one he had in the back and came up witha recent recipet so ididnt even have to pay to get it fixed. now you will never find an on line dealer do that for you. and i have had times where i tried some new nutes that i was totaly unhappy with. when i told him he had me bring back the unused parts set a grow in his staore and then discontinued carrying them because they sucked. and i got a replacement brand that i have been using ever since. cutting edge solutions is one of the best i have ever used. user friendly and very tolerant of a shakey hand. and the customer service for cutting edge is just as great as local stores joel is a top notice guy and willl bend over backwards for you and they have a great feed chart. but back to the topic at hand buy local and save you neighborhood and save your money. trust me i would bet dollat fro dollar over all if we were to buy a set up i would save buying locally. so get out the big book and look up your local grow store and enjoy the free samples they have for just stopping by

Buy off your local ripoff grow store??? Having a laugh???
I buy my seeds and any lighting equipment ( not that I use much lighting) on line.
From legitimate suppliers, not from those crooks on EvilBay.

i think youre overgeneralizing all local stores. most of them mark up their products a ridiculous amount, their staff is usually inexperienced and talking out of their ass, and my store accepts no refunds, only exchanges for store credit to spend on other overpriced items.

also, while you do have to pay for shipping sometimes online, you have to pay sales tax inside the store.

p.s. you seem very biased in your opinion. I'm guessing you work in/own, or know someone who owns a local hydro store

i am not over generalizing my post. i believe we should practice buying localy on anything we purchase. i can see if you dont drive or dont have a local grow store and on line is your only option i understand that. and if its a rare collectable or something you could only find on line sure i get that. but buying localy with anything strenghten our community. it creates jobs paves our roads cleans our parks and many other great things come from buying at our local stores not just grow shops. ya the store might cost a dollar or two more but look at the big picture. that small mom and pop store might not have the buying power of a drop shipper on line but think of it this way. that local grow store places and order. he has to place it to someone that some now passes it on to the guy who fills the order puts it on the truck the truck driver delievers it to the store the employee stocks the shelves and the sells it to for a dollor or two more than you could get it on line. all those people had to be paid and they spend the money they earned in our community. every time they stop to each lunch there are people working delieving products to make you lunch and so on and so and so. that creates jobs and strenghtens out community so to buy anything localy for what you concider over priced feeds families. so all i am saying is to do our best to buy LOCAL!

I try to buy local for supplies like dirt. I've bought dirt online and it sucks paying to have it shipped. Supporting your local guy isn't a bad idea, and most of them are competitive with online vendors out of state.

so you say your local store has a stupid return policy. credit only. well alot of online retails have the same policies and always state that shipping is not covered in the return even if the item is under warrenty. so you have to pay to ship them the broken one and then pay to have the new shipped back to you. many companies count on this so that you dont bother wasting your time going through the troubles. so even if you local store only offer credit for returns you know dam well you will be buying a light bulb or something there in the future anyway so its not really that bad.
