coreyhulick,

I know the number of lights is getting a little crazy. Between flowering and veg chamber I have 39(28 flowering, 11 veg) 23w CFLs, thats 897 actual watts.

Hope that cleared it up, if not let me know.

I got the light fixture built. Thanks for all of your help. FYI for anyone wanting to tuck the wires inside the pipe and run multiple lights in parallel, I used 1 1/4 PVC pipe. Home depot sells these weatherized rubber sockets that will fit in the T's without the need for glue. The disadvantage to that though is if you want to add/subtract a light you have to undo and rewire the whole thing. For a set up the size of ShowStoppers it would require a lot of patience and wiring. Probably better for smaller set ups or side lights.

Picture Update

All four plants are doing well, found the first hairs on the BM yesterday, the other 3 have bud sites all over. I may start trimming off all the vegetative growth below the screen, over a few days, starting next monday(will be day 22 of flowering), any thoughts on this. I wanted to get a top down picture with all the buds, but the lights are in the way.

smellytreez,

Yeah definately, i'm trying to figure out a better arrangement for my lights. SI took off 2 nights in a row a couple days ago, so I had to raise my lights to fit them and that caused it to be far from the other plants.

After staring at my plants for about 20 minutes I finally got an idea for my new light setup. This will probably be my final arangement, it consists of 32 23w CFLs(26 2700k, 6 6500k). I still need to add the last four but ran out of pvc tee fixtures, i'll finish tomorrow.

Damn thats sick bro, good idea!! That little bit will help a lot in the long run!

I think I might make something like this for my side lighting!! I'm dealing with clamps right now and there pretty easy to work with but I could fit more if I made something like this and keep it clean!

Hey, didnt realize that i hadnt checked out your grow after you posted in mine.
This is def one of the more interesting setups ive seen. Ive gotta ask though, why not go for the HPS? I used CFLs in all my other grows but thats because I had very small spaces. Once you add 800w (!) of cfls, theres no real reason not to go for a HPS.
But, since youve alredy got the cfls set up heres some advice. Either build some reflectors for the cfls or at least paint the ceiling white or add mylar. Youre losing 50% of your light atm.

I've been busy and my camera battery died, so I havn't been able to update like I wanted. I will post some more picks as soon as I find my charger.

valuablevariable,

I started with a small CFL grow but it kept growing. For my next grow I would like to go HPS, it will be a 12 to 24 plant SOG in the same space with my middle shelf removed giving me a full six feet of height. The space will be 2'x6'x6' not sure if should use two 250w or two 400w, any thoughts on this are appreciated.

I'm using a 250 in a 2x3 area right now and it seems like plenty. 2 250's and a couple of side lighting should be more than enough but it never hurts to have the extra light..

No expert as to what light is best but would one light on a light rail be possible in that space?

Heres an expert grow using 600w on a lightrail. According to him this is better than using 2 lights:

While I enjoyed the mechanics of what you have built there. Were T5 HO tubes not an option for you?

32 bucks for a 6400k bulb on a 1 bulb fixture. I use a combination of T5 and T8 and I love it.

Anyhow, great clean work!
