Fourth Grow Attempt Tragic Demise? Or Salvagable...

So not too long ago, i germ'd some seed I procured from a bag of weed. Figured, well lets try it again and see how long it take for it all to go to shit.. Anywhu i had about 4 sprouts at first, potted them, in some generic wal-mart soil something-expert was the name of the stuff. "Feed up to 6 months." Figured it was in my shop, why not use it. About 2-3 weeks in these plants are distinguishable, 2 males, and 2 females. Immediately separated the males from the fems. Stuck the males in a place where i would wait a few more days, just to confirm that they were indeed males, and not some tarded fems.

So i keep an eye on my females, growing in natural southern-states sunlight. Yesterday evening i added some nutes to it (split a gallon between the 2 plants). Buddy of mine gave me some "ALASKA" brand 'Fish Fertilizer'. 1tbsp /gallon. On the fertilizer bottle it says it's "5-1-1" and i figured it was low enough, to not hurt the plant, given a low dose. So i feeds them, and go inside, finish my night off.......

I wake up to do my morning wake-n-bake/plant inspection. Half-asleep, i look at 2 plants, not where they used to be, but somewhat chewed at the base, and just flopped over next to the pots they sat in. It must've happened right before i woke up, because the severed plants lying on the ground there hadn't had time to really die, per say.. it looked like it happened about 30 mins before i woke up, maybe less.

So i bit my tongue, told my partner. So i scooped up the dying plants, took a 20oz water bottle, filled it with Brita-Filtered tap water. filled that up about 3/4s the way and poured a pinch of left-over nutes from yesterdays soaking. They have since been out of the sunlight for today, and stuck in my shop/shed. I put them in there because not an hour after sticking them in the bottle originally, they showed signs of life.. (yea no shit, i'm pretty shocked at this point!) So few more hours later i stick a fan on them, to give them a light breeze. and now here i am, wonder where the fcuk i go from here.

I Do have plans of making a CFL setup. I've been reading a lot of the CFL stuff that's on the forums here already, and have a good idea of what i have already to work with, and what i need to get.

If anyone has anything they can tell me, that may save these plants please, feel free to bash/smash/lazr/fire/burn the shit out of my idiocracy, laugh, then see if there's any hope for these little ones. I would greatly appreciate any advice!!!

hmmm... are you saying that they were severed at the stem or that the roots had been pulled up as well? I'd say if they still have roots on them you might be able to replant them I suppose...

A pot plant's life cycle is dependent on the amount of light they receive per day- so you wouldn't know the sex if they were only three weeks from seed and weren't on a 12-12 light cycle. I wanna say they about 4-5 weeks old as of now. This morning is when i found them chewed in half, about an inch and a half from the root system. What i neglected to mention... was that, before i shoved the severed plants, into some water, i made fresh cuts on a downward angle, like a quarter inch below the very first set of nodes on both the plants. then stuck them in the water... They have since perked up tremendously.. and it's at this point i don't know what to do with them.. Do i stuck them back in the sun come AM? or keep them in the shop, till the CFL setup is finished (which wouldn't take me but all of tomorrow to do-i hope :S )... They have no root system, they're just thriving off of some low-dose nutes diluted heavily with water (brita-filtered tap) I also tried looking for "root toner" at wal-mart, but to no avail.

I'm uploading some pics right now, of them in the pot before this morning.. and what i jerry-rigged earlier today....

like MORD says, if the stem and roots are detached, then there's probably not much luck of salvaging. the reason it looks good in the water is that the stem will still absorb some water, just like roses in a vase, but it wont be able to really grow, especially not into a mature plant, without roots. mord is also right about the sexing. its really unlikely that you would be able to tell just a few weeks in especially in soil and not under 12/12. also, if you are in the southern US, then i'm willing to bet most seedlings are not going to fair too well at this point in the summer. what i would suggest is to sprout some new seeds, put them under some CFLs that burn at 6500K. you can find these at walmart and the like, go for a high wattage if you can find it. a couple of 26w (actual not equivalent) bulbs will do fine. keep them under the lights until it cools down a little and them put them outside to finish. if you start now you may be able to still get in a small harvest.

another thing you should consider is to watch out for nutrient burn. soils with fertilizer in them already are a general no-no if at all avoidable. you should also start at 25-50% strength for all chemical nutrients, and only when they are old enough to take it. and finally you will have to flush regularly. these are all things you can learn by reading the newbie threads.

it takes some trial and error to dial in your own method so dont get discouraged if it doesn't work out the first few times. we've all had our share of failed attempts, but growing your own is the way to go and if you but a little reading time and effort into it, you will be on your way to success. good luck!

if i understand correctly, u probably dont wanna put a breeze on it cuz u need all the humidity u can get....put a dome on it

yup- start over dude!

So here's some before and after-math pics of the one that looks Sativa-ish. The other was a bit shorter, and resembled that of an indica plant. These guys are in need of some serious help, so if anyone is game to shoot me some advice, please have at it!

those are bigger than I expected them to be. It's kinda hard to see if you have a branch worth cloning but maybe moash is right and you should give cloning a try.

i would try to maybe take some clones as quickly as possible. like tonight if you can. otherwise, what i said earlier. you can find instructions on taking cuttings (clones) here on RIU.

So i just bought x2 42w 2700 CLFs from wal-mart. Got one of them fancy 2-into-1 light socket whatchamacallits.

So i'm taking my old tin hand-made dog house that a friend gave to me, sealing it up with duct tape (the shit i like to call "aluminum foil tape"). Gonna throw the mylar around the walls, and ceiling, and probably (if i can find some..) paint the floor of it, white. I'll take some pics of it, and show y'all what i have to start with. Provided this all goes well with a successful grow, i'm gonna go and get me some of those fancy bag seeds, and really get into growing, technically anyways. Things like measuring the incoming water ph.. the proper lighting vs wattage and color. Soils and nutes. and everything in-between.

I've been a member here for 4 years now, and mainly used it as a knowledge base, for my previous and unsuccessful attempts. It's only till recently i've had the time to be able to watch something like this on a daily basis. I know a good bit on what there is to know, and still learning. most of all, i'm appreciative of the help, and good people here. Thanks to all of you!

r u going to use that to grow in?if so,then get some cfls with a higher kelvin temp for veg....like 5000 or 6000...use the 2700 for flower
or to only root clones?if so,then disreguard what was said above

Yea, i plan on growing out of that. I know to use the 5000k for veg, and switch to 2700k for flowering and on. But at the moment, ALL walmart had, were the 42w @ 2700k. So i scooped up 2 of them for now.

I have some random assed seeds i acquired from various bags of weed. Germing those right now, in hopes that by the time my set up box is finished, all i gotta do is throw my sprouts in some soil, watch, and learn.

Here's whats cooking now, on day 1 (yesterday).

As you can see, i bought another x2 26w @6500k and plugged them in. Now all i have to do is figure out where i want my doghouse to be seated permanently.. cause in the shop (where i have it now, even with fan on, it's still 89-90degrees in there..

However i do have a "crawlspace" under my house.. about 2-3ft high. Not to mention is at least 11 degrees lower down there. I'll most likely move the doghouse there.
