Hey whats up? yes I am a nube ! and I wanted to know if I can combine nutes in the same gallon jug. I've been using Fox Farm grow big, and wanted to start using tiger bloom too. Would I put it in a separate gallon jug, or is it all good to combine them together? Just wanted to know... Thanks
okay dude, here is the
CORRECT answer that doesn't make any assumptions about what you already know
as you'll see some other people have the right answer but its not totally complete
step 1 - decide how much nutrients you need at the end - so like if you have a 30 gallon res you want filled, that means 30 gallons is your answer
step 2 - do the math and figure out how much of each nutrient your supposed to add to that much water - if your like me, write it down cuz i never remember it and have to do the math again
step 3 - fill the rez, or whatever your mixing nutes in, with water
step 4 - pour one measured dose of one nutrient into to water and stir it up
step 5 - repeat step four for all the other nutrients your using
you never want to have two liquid nutrients touching each other at full strength that they come in the bottle at
they are separated for a reason and the reason is theyll react with each other chemically and create sludge at the bottom (chemistry calls it "precipitate")
that precipitate wont dissolve no matter how much water you add so if you make that happen you just wasted nutes
Now... lets say you need 30 gallons but for whatever reason you dont want to mix it up in the reservoir... you want something more portable
Okay.
well you CAN mix nutes at high strengths - lower than whats in the bottle but higher than youd ever actually want to give to a plant
but exactly where the line is between application strength (X amount of nutes in 30 gallons of water) and bottle strength (X nutes, no water) that will cause it to precipitate is hard to guess
youd probably be safe mixing 30 gallons worth of nutes into 15 gallons of water - probably even 10 gallons maybe
but 5 gallons might be pushing it
again its gonna depend on the nutes and how many additives your using etc etc
also dont mix your nutes up way ahead of time
they dont store shelf stable as well mixed up
i know some guys will mix them up and keep them in the fridge or something but it takes up less room not mixed and it isnt that big a deal to just mix what you need when you need it
