Fox Farms Happy Frog

It seems to me that most people on this site have positive things to say about the happy frog....I was planning to use it for my next grow, but wanted to know if it is good to go straight out of the bag, or if i should add anything to the soil to help drainage, water absorbtion, and ect.

I've used Happy Frog soil and it worked great. The guy at my local store told me that Happy Frog is a combination of Oceans Forest and Light Warrior. It was also a little cheaper also. $24 for 2cu ft., compared to the other 2 that were the same price but each bag was only 1.5 cu ft.

dude if you're doing soil, you need to make sure that you mix the soil (yes, the happy frog) at a 1/3 ratio of perlite.. yes.. 1/3 of the end result should be perlite mixed into it... then, take a soilles mix you can make on your own (like, say.. perlite + peat moss + vermiculite) if you dont have either peat moss or vermiculite, mix 1/2 ratios of perlite with whichever one u have and then take this 2nd mix we've discussed and add that as the top 4-5 inches of the bucket, this will allow the young, tender plant to have a root system and be fuckin happy n shit before it starts digging it's roots into those nutrients that await it in the first mix we made that lie 4-5 inches underneath the first mix... get it?

i have to revive this thread! immediately!
i'm torn between ocean forest and happy frog.
what's the word on pH out of the bag?
trying to figure out how much (if at all) my water needs to be adjusted.

I used Happy Frog straight out of the bag on my current plants and they are all doing great. I battled a magnesium deficiency a few weeks ago, but have resolved that since. No pH lockouts at all.

thanks for the quick reply. i think i'm going to go with happy frog instead of the ocean forest soil. mainly for the cost, but also because i read the pH of ocean forest runs around 6.3-6.8 that sounds a little high to me.
thoughts anyone?

I'm definitely watching this one, because my local hydro/horticulture shop carries the full line of FF products, but I can get a BIG (approx. 50Lb) bag of Happy Frog for the same price as a small (22Lb) bag of Ocean Forest. I was just gonna get the OF since everyone seems to recommend it and mix it in with Light Warrior and some perlite, but the Happy Frog is MUCH more economical if it will grow as well.

I would try Happy Frog by itself. I'm using just straight OF at the moment and even though my plants are doing just fine in it, it is a bit expensive! I'm sure Happy Frog by itself rocks just as much as OF does!

The Light Warrior is just another formulation of planting soil/media, but it is supposed to be more beneficial to seedlings and younger plants. judging from what I've read, it sounds like happy frog and some perlite is probably a good ticket. Do ya'll use the FF nutes also??? I'm undecided whether to go with the FF stuff or use Advanced Nutrients nutes. Any opinions?????

First time with nutes here but I am using FF Grow Big during the veg state and im now a bit over a month in & started using Grow Big about two weeks ago. Only doing 1/2 strength but the plants look very healthy and happy (growing very fast now). I plan to use Tiger Bloom during flowering.

Due to the cost of ocean forest I also bought a bag of happy frog. I mixed them together trying to get as close to a fifty fifty mixture as I could guestimate. I recently started using an hid setup. I have ten plants going. This grow I also mixed in some scott's potting soil for container growing along with the ocean forest and happy frog. I used hydroton instead of perlite. In my opinion ocean forest already has enough perlite. So far my girls look great. I vegged them for three weeks and put them into a 12/12 cycle last monday. All but one have shown their sex. So far, eight out of ten with two still to go.

I also use all fox farm nutes. Grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom. I start off about a quarter strength and work my way up to a stronger solution. Thirty some days old and no burns at all.

I start seeds/cuttings in Light Warrior, transplant into Happy Frog, and then transplant into Ocean Forest about 1-2 weeks before flowering. Light Warrior is the weakest nute wise, then Happy Frog, and Ocean Forest is the strongest nute wise. Hope this makes sense. I'm pretty :eyesmoke: right now.
