fox farms ocean forest questions

for most of my grows, my basis has been ffof soil..with other nutrients and varieties added along the way..my problem that i continue to run into is low ph levels, which i have adjusted from time to time. my main question here, is..what is a great 'blend' to mix with the ffof soil, to essentially make a great soil to grow in? ive heard of people mixing in happy frog and others, but im still not set on just trying this one thing..i want a lot of opinions on this!
any help? thanks!

Adding 1 oz of dolomite lime to each gallon of soil it a good way to stabilize your ph if is too acidic.

true, but are there any other soils out there to mix with the ffof, to essentially have a good balance of nutes?

ffof is Great IMO for vegging plants with no nutes the 1st month. Keeps mine dark green & happy, I add a little perlite & lime to be safe. I No longer use FF bottled nutes. I am using supersoil and teas now.

I used ffof / happy frog in my super soil mix. so far so good.

The Happy Frog, is all I use. It is a mix of Ocean Forest and Light Warrior. I go 3:1 with inert perlite. No problem.

totally agree, everytime ive started to grow, i usually only start them off in the ffof and theyre happy as hell. you have any good tea recipes by the way? thats one thing ive been looking into doing eventually

No exact recipes so far, began it no too long ago, been using modified versions I find on google. recently been bacterial dominated compost teas I use for my veg and foliar spray.

use roots organics natural & organic soil, no more problems with ph! FFOF has a bad habit of being too strong, a ph of 5.3-5.7 and not being balanced well for MJ.

roots can have some issues, sometimes it comes out hot and needs a week or two of rest before planting into it, another time it had gnats. but gnats shouldnt kick ur ass!

roots is the most well balanced soil on the market hands down.

happy frog has a tendency to turn as hard as a rock during the dry time and not absorb water hardly at all so u have to have the plant literally sitting in water for minutes before any absorbtion happens.

FFOF can be mixed at a 50/50 with light warrior for decent results.

i would still suggest roots organics.

Roots is the first soil mix I've used that doesn't require added perlite -- so they're obviously doing something right My supersoil is brewing so haven't actually used it yet. Now I'm wondering what I'm going to do with the rest of that cubic foot each of perlite and vermiculite I don't need

ffof has worked great for me. ro is not available in my area unfortunately. i never have ph problems though as my tap water is 8.2

FFOF is definitely the best I've used to date -- you just need to make sure to add some perlite and some extra sources of P for flower (guano time).

SOME PERLITE? HAHA TRY A SHIT LOAD FFOF has a horrible consistancy gets too wet and just point blank isnt good unless you ADD more things so hows it the best?

I add a cup of dolomite lime for every 1.5 cubic foot... works great... limestone is a natural buffer

yeah i know a lot of ppl that use a shitload of dolomite. i used like 2 cups in happy frog but that stuff is garbage. roots is the best hands down, u dont gotta do a damn thing!

what would you guys recommend as the medium. in other words what mixture or what soil with amendments would you recomend i use.
my plants are at about...easily like week 4 or 5. dont exactly remember off the top of my head. i have a t12 light (40 watt) and 7 individual 60 watt bulbs on desk lights surrounding the plants (at about 4 inches away from them.) they have been in MG soil due to i dont want to kill them completely, rather give em a little nute burn rather than kill them with the wrong soil mixture or amendment mixing ratio. im using 8 inch pots. the materials i have to work with off the bat are a : a bag of bone meal, a bag of blood meal, a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest, a bag of perlite, i also have a bag of vermiculite. obviously it is a first time grow. if y'all have any tips what so ever much appreciated. i also have a bag of dolomite lime.

Here's the deal, from my perspective at least, and I m stoned... FFOF isn't exactly like your quite strictly soil-less mediums that dominate the market: Roots Organic is quite soil-less, Light-Warrior, Happy Frog, Pro-Mix, Sunshine Adv. and most related products. These are all sphagnum and/or coir based with perlite, pumice, perhaps some earthworm castings as with Roots and HF and what-ever other ingredients. There is no soil in those products.

But there is soil in FFOF, it is listed in the ingredients as 'sandy loam' (loam characterizes a soil with a certain even proportion of sand, silt and clay). Of course there is still sphagnum in it as a conditioner, and it was designed before coir became the amendment that it is. Ocean Forest also has forest humus, earthworm castings and another form of compost... it is just loaded with organic matter.

So if you take Ocean Forest, mix in high-quality coco coir at perhaps 25-33%, maybe a little bit more perlite and 1.5 tbsp\gal dolomite lime it should be just fine. More recently trying 1 tbsp dolomite + 1 tbsp Azomite.
