Frog I believe comes from the faces of some French and Canadians looking like frogs , the eyes especially . I have plenty of French in my family that do or don't fit into that look . Also some Hispanics and Latinos . Some of the Latinos aren't hispanic . Mainly the differences of values I see in those groups are caused by how we are raised . Not ethnicity . Things are sometimes more cultural also but really it's the upbringing and what has been taught as acceptable behavior - like not washing and stinking it up . Those people I'm sure were raised that way .

There are several theories. Some say it dates back to the 18th century when Paris was surrounded by swamps and they picked up the name, frogs. Then there is the idea that they received that moniker due to ammo packs which the French wore around their abdomens during WWI or WWII (can't remember). I guess it made them look like frogs. Finally it's the cuisine thing. Who knows.

i've only dealt with french canadians and not french from france. most canadians i've met are really down to earth. i know a girl who spent a summer in france once and she referred to them as "dried up crusty turds" who looked down on everything. it sounds a bit biased to me but i wasn't there.
also, i'm not opposed to the idea of a national language of english for the US, as long as we recognize spanish as a secondary language for the sake of acknowledging reality and promoting cross-cultural communication. spanish is a lot easier for foreigners to learn than english, and if the goal really is better communication, i don't see what difference it makes if we all speak english or spanish to one another as long as genuine communication takes place. english should be primary simply because well over 80% of the country speaks it fluently.
my city has a lot of signs in vietnamese. it doesn't really bother me. there's a shit ton of vietnamese people here and they make good food. however it's not reasonable for the majority here to learn vietnamese because if you go 100 miles in any direction you stop seeing so many vietnamese. spanish is a bit different. maybe my opinion is different because i took 6 years of spanish and could probably speak it fluently with just a bit of study, but all i care about is getting the point across to one another.

The worst part is when they bitch and complain how things were SO much better in NY and NY wouldn't stand for this or that... blah blah blah... If NY was so great then move the fuck back there. I know exactly what you're talking about. I dealt with them in Santa Fe.
