Friends reckons my grow isn't going well, what do you think?

Alright guys, been here a while mainly viewing threads on growing and stuff not so active on the posting front but to the point. I started my first little grow with 2 seeds; auto-flower cheese and auto-flower northern lights, using a 6500k light. It's just been 2 weeks since I put them in a pot after germination - I've attached photos. The reason I'm posting this is because I asked my mates how he thinks they're doing and he thinks they should be quite a bit bigger, though he's not a big grower himself, so I'm asking what you guys think? I've got an issue with gnats but I've read how to rid of them. And also I'm not sure, is the light a safe and good distance away from the plants?

Cheers

the light is way to far away man when your light is to far it makes your plants stretch. and you should read the sticky about replanting those long stems. good luck

That might be a little slower than usually but they do look a healthy green so i wouldnt worry about it. That bulb shouldnt give off much heat id move it a little closer even.

No you are growing incorrectly. First off your light is waaaaaaaay too far away. Get that light right down to the plant. No more than two inches away. Your plant is stretching up to reach the light. Bring the light down to your plant. As it grows keep the light at 2 inches above it. In the meantime get some more soil and bury as much of that long stem as you can, leaving just the top of the plant peeking out. Also bring in more Cfl bulbs at least 2 or 3. Place them at the same close proximity 2 inches above seedling and blast that little sucker with light 24-7 or 18-6 more light will equal more growth :-)

Normally once your past the seedling stage you want the light maybe 4 inches off your plant. I use a 600W sodium with air cooler and i damn near touch the light to my girls.

New seedlings grow mostly roots when first put into dirt. You put them directly into 3-gallon instead of
letting them root in a small pot first. So now you wait a month for the roots to fill the pot and start growing
aboveground.

BigSteve.

PS -- You are going to have problems down the road with your soil. I don't see any perlite or organic material
mixed with your dirt. You are going to have muddy dirt and that's bad. Mud prevents a plant from getting the oxygen
it needs to grow and thrive. I would get something like a knitting needle and poke a dozen holes in and through the
rootball after each watering. Also, perlite and organics absorb water and hold it for the plant to use when needed.
Without those your soil will drain poorly and run right through the roots.

I heard that lots of people dont do grows with 24/7 lighting anymore cuase it was proven the plants dont get an more out of it past 18 hours. I havent read on it in awhile so i could be wrong.

you can bury the stem too..... add some more soil

use the back of your hand to determine heat of the bulb......you can be 6 inches above the plant with a small bulb

Hey dude, In my opinion they look healthy, just need more light. As a majority of the others who commented recommended move your light down till its maybe 2-3 inch's above your plants, if you can get a couple more cfl's go for it, will really help :) Im on my first grow as well man it can be a nervous time haha,

Good luck dude!

Most everything has been covered already, but I will add a few things. Don't bring those lights down to closer than 4" if you don't have a fan in there. Depending on what cfls they are, some can put out a lot of heat, and on a seedling is not good. That is why fluorescent tubes are great for seedlings. You also may have to do some surgery on your soil to add some perlite. You should be able to scoop most of it out around the sides and pretty close up to the plant. Its roots should just be shooting mainly straight down right now. Just be careful. If you do this, mix your backfill about 50/50 with perlite if you can get it. And bury more of the stem if you do this also.

Also, IME, those clay pots will be a hassle to transplant from if you need to. I like the little 6" ones for seedlings because they weep extra moisture from the soil, but even then I have to take a knife or something flat and basically cut the soil from the edge of the pot because it likes to bind to the clay.
Other than that, they look healthy, and none of these are problems you can't overcome. Good luck.

Cheers for all the replies. So should I not re-plant them in a smaller pot? also as a last question, because they've taken a while to actually flower and they're autos, will it take longer than the 70days or will it take the same amount of time and produce less?

I've adjusted the light and trapped the light a bit more what do you think, is this alright? i'll be getting some more soil and perlite tomorrow to cover the stem up a bit.

also, another question when do you think I should switch the light from 6500k to 2700k?

If you can add another cfl so you have 1 over each plant or they're just gonna stretch toward the light. And from the looks of the soil, be careful on your watering. If it was me, i would let soil dry out some, then transplant into pots with better soil mixture. You started them in way to big of pots in first place, thats why the slow growth.. As for the bulb change, instead of switching just add the 2700 to the 1 you have.

Lmao so negative!
Ive seen someone grow using 1x42 watt bulb he got what 2 grams but it still harvested something. My point is the setup will work if he want more bid just add more light.

Just sounds like you don't know what you are talking about tbh!
