Frost Damage Prevention

Ok with early frost problably soon
coming, i was wondering if there were
a few ways i could protect it from cold
temps. my plants are about 6 ft outside,
in the dirt. to keep the roots warmer
at night when the temperatures go down,
could i simply pile more soil above the level
ground? like a big pile around the base, preventing
some freezing of the roots? also, ive read that
the ground releases heat at night.... so was maybe
thinking if i put down a layer of heat reflective insulation
or tin foil... maybe the heat would stay in the ground.
i dunno, what do you guys think lol?

if you look at my journal you will see the netting and plastic up around the plants, if you did that you could put a small heater out there, and it would work great! That is exactly what I plan on doing, because I plan on harvesting all the way through the year forever! Mulch the topsoil, put blankets over the ground.... sleep naked outside and let your body heat keep them warm... lol just tokin.....

a good way to beat the frost is by tarping your plants and spreading black plastic underneath around the stem with gallon jugs of water around the base of your plant.sunlight is drawn to the plastic and heats the water bottles, which cool slowly at night...wont beat a killer freeze but itll get you through a mild frost...another way is by spreading hot compost on topof the plastic(id use something thicker like plywood though so you wouldnt toast your roots)...good luck

I also put plenty of small stones all around the base to attract heat during the day. It works.

every few weeks or so i usually put down an inch or two of woodchips around my plants, my cats use the area as their own little shitter so they are always diggin around my plants leaving holes, but yea, mulch, stones, and woodchips will keep the roots warm during a mild frost

slate is the best, its flat, and aborbs a lot of heat during the day... slate on top of mulch on top of a black plastic, and you will be just fine!
