Most likely around the same as a CFL but in a less usable spectrum." which i must have mistook what you meant and took it as you were saying " a 25w or 50w hps delivers a less usable spectrum" and was just stating that all hps spectrums are the same no matter the wattage ..

I was assuming he was using little hps spotlights which in a small area are more effective then cfl's ..

Can someone direct me to a link of a self ballasted HPS spot light? I feel retarded, I can't find any. I hope he didn't buy some self ballasted MHs. Those are terrible at low wattage.

im assuming his has ballast in enclosure same as street lights but to keep heat down best to remove ballast and place outside grow area by wiring it remotely

I searched... I found nothing. I bet he either purchased a MV bulb or a complete HPS flood light system like this -



Which of course has a ballast, it's just built into the unit.
