my lights are on a timer, so they shut off/on every 12 hours. however i forgot to close the bedroom door so they continued receivin ambient light for another hour. is that enough to make them hermie, or am i just stressin?

The most you did was reset their sleep cycle, and that early on you're fine. In the wild they'll flower starting around 13/11.

they are fine. they recieve moon light when they are growing outdoors, so a little light leak wont kill them (despite what people say)

Light causes a hermie after the plant has grown accustomed to the 12/12 light schedule and THEN light sneaks in. If you had light seepage during the first week or two of switching it just mans you're a couple weeks behind in flowering.

well of course it wont kill them. I must strongly beg to differ if you are trying to say light leaks will/can not cause hermies though, ive had it happen more than once to me. however i will agree that a time or 2 shouldnt cause any problems.

Well I do not have the long time experience but I too have been trying to hermie one of my ladies for the longest time now and it seems I cannot stress her enough.

I will not get into genetic wars but I have 5 Lemon Skunk from GHS (and by some members post around here these should be easy as hell to hermie) 4 ladies are wonderfully in their 8th week of flowering and are looking very tasty, now since about week 3 I have had one lady isolated under her own 430W HPS lamp and I have tried everything to get her to hermie with no luck.

Now I have not kept exceptional records on my attempts, but I know they include (in no particular order):

  • turning on ambient room lights (not HPS) 2, 4, and 6 hours into the dark cycle for about an hour for at least 10 days straight.
  • supper cropped the hell out of her
  • extremely high PPM (+3000 with AN 3-part with Overdrive)
  • pH was at 5.0 for a few days and then jumped up to about 7 for 2 days
  • took clones during 2nd week of flower
All of the above plus more has not given me any bananas yet, what is a guy to do to get some seeds. Just my personal experience, thanks GHS give everybody else shit genetics but me.

You may be a lucky man then. Start giving her an hour of light in the middle of the dark period. if you still dont see any balls after 2-3 weeks its time to do a happy dance as youve just found a true female. a plant that cannot go hermie from any natural stresses. they are highly sought after and used to breed. Simply apply colodial silver or another chemical which name i cant think of to make it grow deformed male flowers which you harvest the pollen from and apply it to the same plant. Basically it makes exact genetic copies of itself.

Once the morning hits I am going to do some searching as I would love to get some of what your talking about, ahh screw the morning thing it is never too late to learn. Here is a great read on the subject of Colodial Silver and Rodelization.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, in the article it seems very easy to make but who the hell has a 9v battery. :-P

Tommorow will be c-silver making time.

It's a different type of light and it's technically only reflected sunlight, which severely dampers the light wavelength, MUCH different than letting fake full wave-length light get into a controlled growing situation.
